Individual Worth"Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God." - D&C 18:10Sure, we’ve all been there before. At least in one point of our life we’ve felt lost, lonely, worthless, and all of those other unpleasant adjectives dealing with the same subject. We feel despair, like no one anywhere cares about us. But wait! Someone
does care about us. In fact, they’re a couple of someones who are
referred to as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They may not
be sitting next you saying "I love you, you’re awesome, you’re wonderful..."
but they do care for each and every one of us. They know us by name. They
know what you had for breakfast yesterday (although that’s not incredibly
important to them). The Savior literally is our Big Brother, except not
in the awful sense conveyed by George Orwell’s 1984. He knows your thoughts,
He knows your actions, and He uses this knowledge for your own good. In
fact, He’s trying to help you in any way He can. Moses
1:39 states that "this is my work and my glory: to bring to pass the
immortality and eternal life of man." Satan, however, doesn’t want us to succeed. He "seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself" (2 Nephi 2:27), so he’s positively delighted when you’re down in the dumps. He hopes that you will "curse God, and die" as Job’s wife tried to get him to do (Job 2:9). He knows that we as humans like the easy way out, and will get us to apostasize when the going gets tough, like so many of the early Saints did. And sadly, that is what happens to some people. We need to remember the advice from 1 Corinthians 10:13: that God "will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able." "We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us, and we love Him...."Every Sunday across the world, Young Women everywhere begin their classes with these words. They’re true, too. Heavenly Father loves us so much that "He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Isn’t that amazing? His only Son, whom He loved immensely, was sacrificed so that we could become clean. So, next time you’re feeling in the dumps, just remember that Someone loves you! Back to my Church page Home |
