| 1. Look up the meaning of the name Vera and tell why her name is ironic. The root ver = truth, therfore, Vera's name stands for truthfulness. This name is very ironic because Vera acts the opposite of what her name symbolises. Vera tells stories and lies a lot so this is a case of irony, the author has the reader believe by her name that she is truthful, but by the end of the story the reader realizes that Vera is a liar. 2. In what ways is the story's last line ironic? Romance at short notice is Vera's specialty. This is ironic becuase throughout the story the author specifically does not reveal that Vera is telling a lie until the very end. Vera is particularly the person that the readers would not expect to be telling the lies because she is depicted as an innocent little girl. 3. Two other situations of irony: |
