Causes/ Effects of WWII

CAUSES
1. Militarism
Many countrues such as Germany, Japan and the US were building up their military and numbers of soldiers. THese countries would eventually use these armies on enemies and other countries, leading to warfare.
2. Arms Race
As countries grew in power and militaries got stronger, these countries also needed stronger and omre modern weapons. Nations competed for the best and latest weapons which would eventually be used to destroy.
3. Modern Advances
As time passed forom the first World War, the second world war was fully equipped with new weapons and technologies. Such advancements were many.
4. Nonagression Pact w/ Stalin
In August 1939, Adolph Hitler announced a nonaggression pact with Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union, which was mostly meant to distract the world while Germany invaded Poland.
5. Invade of Poland
On September 1, 1939, German forces invaded Poland, forcing Britain and France to honor their commitment to Poland and declare war on Germany.

EFFECTS

1. Mass Numbers Killed
75 million people were killed worldwide from World War II, including 38 million in Europe and 22 million in the Soviet Union.
2. The Holocaust
The world learned the full extent of the Holocaust and gained sympathy for Jews across the world.
3. War Crime Trials
War crimes trials were held, showing that political and military leaders could be held accountable for actions in wartime.
4. United Nations
The World War II Allies set up an international organization to secure peace called the United Nations.
5. Cold War
The Cold War broke out as a result of crumbling alliances between the Soviet Union and other countries around the world and economical tension increased.
