Isn't it annoying when people don't rewind the video before they return it to the shop? It doesn't take a lot of time or effort but for some people it appears that it is too much of a hassle to bother. Anyway, Scary Movie wasn't rewound when we put it in the machine and this later led to the most frightening part of the movie. About an hour into it we realised that perhaps, like us, the guys who watched it last found it so utterly mind numbing and humourless that they had stopped it halfway through and there might be another hour to go. Apparently our terrified screams could be heard in Leeds.

So okay, it wasn't meant to be scary, it was going for laughs instead. Maybe spoofing a parody wasn't the best of ideas in the first place but whereas
Scream was tongue in cheek Scary Movie is tits 'n' ass, resorting to immature jokes and uninspired sight gags which singularly fail to raise as much as a snigger. It doesn't send up the stalker genre as a whole, instead preferring to just lift entire scenes from Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer and throw some jokes about willies and homosexuals at it. Towards the end they realise that this might not be enough and so there are brief rip-offs of The Usual Suspects and The Matrix but again without the desired effect.

If you want an imaginative spoof then rent
Airplane or any of the Naked Gun series again, I guarantee that there will be more genuinely funny gags that you had forgotten about in the first ten minutes of those films than there are in the entirity of Scary Movie. Anthony had a toilet break halfway through and insisted that I not pause the film on his account. He also announced that he wished he had a bigger bladder so he could've avoided seeing another five minutes or so.
