Grass Valley Tree Frog

It's hard to pass on the offer of a free Saab. When Dave Raggins called to say he was off to Texas and his two parts 96s were off to the crusher unless I came and got them--what could I say? It was off to Grass Valley with the car trailer. The route took us around Emerald Bay, through Truckee, over the high pass on Highway 80 and down into the live oak country of the Sierra Nevada gold country. After a few twists and turns I found my self staring at the Tree Frog--a 73 96 --that was definitely a parts car. Secretly I was thinking to myself that if I'd seen this beast before I got here, I'd have never gone after it in the first place. Well in for a penny... I hauled it up on the trailer and towed it home. Got a few good bits and pieces before I left the hulk on John Johnson's lower 40.

Why do I do it? It was a long day in the sun. Nice to get down to where the world was green. But I'll admit the main drive is the thrill of the hunt. The hope that when you get that first glimpse of a the "free Saab" it will be the Swede of your dreams.

I left the better of the two cars--a 69 Deluxe behind. The body panels are ok. If you want to go get it drop me a line and give you directions. After all it's FREE!
