=pvin1029 PVK Inventory / New doc, 29 Oct '05 ------------------------------------------------------------------ I offered the Germany NO my Green Notebook German notes on PVK's German Week -- 1994 as I recall -- but whoever answered my Email, Birgit, won't take them, says it's ZR's job, that they deal only with lectures given in Germany. Bring back Hadi. Really, with all their resources -- human, educational, financial, and geographically compact relative to the USA -- one might expect much more of the German_speaking group. The Zurich Centrum alone has enough gold in their basement valults ob ObenGartenStr. to -- buy us all lunch at NordSeeFisch in the HauptBahnhof. On a daily basis. With motor_scooter delivery. Just add a small afterburner and one of those little bikes can go right over the alps before the coffee cools. It it's properly packaged, of course. It is my impression that she is not in touch with ZR on this matter. ZR does not as SOP answer all Emails. He really needs a good secretary for that office, who can institute SOP. (Standard Office Procedure) Mazaltov, I'll try to bull my way through it, unless I can find Aziz Vengler and ask him to do it. Aziz Christian Wengler, TopferStr. 1, D-01968 Senftenberg , christianwengler@web.de He typed the German stuff from the Red and Blue notebooks. ----------------------------------------------------------- OK, this doc is primarily to detail the PVK et al. material I took off the Shahabudin/Katrina augmented HIKWorks CD, and the kevanian CD. I must add Kevanian to the Distribution List for PVK Archiving. service@unitheum.de He prodcued the CD with the KITs on it, and much other material. Includes 2 PVK audio meditations, and short videos of PVK and HIK. No other PVK material that I noticed. With all the necessary freeware tossed in. I Posted that material to my Briefcase sa73122c@yahoo.com Password dogpatch I also Posted most of it to the Geocities at that address: www.geocities.com/sa73122c I'm a bit uncomfortable at having done that, less for questions of copyright than for concerns of classification (esoteric security). But I think the SO is pretty much protected by the Kafka Principle -- "goat can't get through the clutter". And the SitzFleisch Corallary -- Mischief Makers don't have the patience to sit still long enough to read this stuff. And my primary concern is the stable preservation of this material, and that it should be available to all to whom it should be available. And multiple redundancy helps in those regards OK for today's whinge. And I still I'd made myself breakfast. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Note three published PVK books that were not input on this disc: The Way of the Dervish, Spirituality in Therapy and Counseling (Omega Press, 1990) The Message in Our Time (Harper and Row, 1978) As I have elsewhere remarked, PVK notes, with his usual tact, in the introduction to The Message in Our Time, that he published version was only about one-third of the manuscript he submitted. So one would very much like to see that original version made available to mureeds. --------------------------------------------------------------- OK, Here are my notes on the Leaders Manual.ù I have broken that into =LM1 and =LM2 , and now I have to see that I didnt overlap. =LM1.txt goes to page 437 Volume 1, Leadership in the Sufi Order The Message, Sufism, and the Sufi Order page 1: History of the Sufi Movement and the Sufi Order, by PVK Chapter 2: Leadership: page 35: A letter from PVK to Leaders Chapter III -- Classes page 55: Conducting Classes, by PVK Chapter IV -- Initiation p182: Initiation -- the Sacred Link, by HIK Chapter V -- Counseling -- page 209: Working with Mureeds, by HIK ------------------------------------------- p219: APPARENTLY A REPEAT OF CHAPTER I by PVK As I note below, I think that files taken from Folio Views 4.11 via Word 2000 into text_only, which is what I've done with the PVK material on those two CD's (the augmented SKX HIK, and Kavanian's KIT Collection) are doubled. I've trimmed off what I got to. Hope I didn't chop off any non_duplicates. I'm trying to work toward creation of PVK text data_base, to facilitate topical searches. You don't want duplicates on your searchable data_base -- not even verbatim__plus__edit redundancy -- because then you get redundant hits, and you have to go back and make sure that they really are redundant. What I'll add of my stuff to my data_base will be my Flying Edits, not my Verbatim's. In general, I would like only verbatim's on a data_base, not edits. Especially if the editor is working for a commercial publisher, there's too much risk of something significant having been trimmed off -- PVK's thought is very complex, and his phrasing is very subtle. A bourgeois editor is apt to overlook and edit out much of that. But not me. My Flying Edits are very conservative. "I'm a clean cut kid and I been to college too." (Bob Dylan) And as much to the point, my verbatims are pretty cluttered up with my interjected comments. I trimmed out all but the best of 'em in my Flying Edits. --------------------------------------------- I'll go back to slogging through this later. What Campra needs is a 24/7 Kosher Hotdog stand. With a Swisscom Phone Booth next to it. Sitting in the snow. With a snow shovel. And possibly sauerkraut. And of course they give credit on Shabat. And possibly a small warm well_lighted room with a pool table. And tap beer. With warm tap Guiness on the side. ---------------------------------------------------------------- OK, I've cut out the presumed duplicates -- Shadow copies, I think. =LM2.txt seemed to repeat itself after page 359, but the last page of =LM2.txt was apparently p530. Yet it seemed to be the same as page 359. Maybe this Mouse moves so fast that space contracts. So anyhow, the trimmed_bacon copy is: =PVKxLMa1.txt + =PVKxLMa2.txt I still to do a quickie table of contents on the second half. ============================================================== OK, here's a quickie table of contents for =LM2 , trimmed into =PVKxLMa2 p001: HIK, How to Lead the Mureed to do his Spritual Practices p008: Counseling, by PVK Oh shucks, I'll deal with this later. Maybe. Word just crashed itself. Maybe a sign from the netherworld that even the gremlins respect the SO hierarchy, even though I don't. This guy is sitting in the tipi, and he shakes the rattle so hard it breaks. About as bad as the tipi blowing down. One of the guys sitting up front says, The Roadman wants you to know, he's not superstitious, the rattle broke because this guy shook it too hard. Judaism don't much hold with siddhi's. Though the Talmud's full of examples. Even Bruria had to restrain her old man from laying a curse on the local yokels when they were uncouth. And Reb Meir was as good a man as ever lost a good woman. Properly speaking, we are supposed to stone witches. Or else burn them, I forget which. Nowadays however this biblical injunction, although of course not repealed, is more benignly re_interpreted as: lay a joint of Mishrekan on the dude, tell im you'll be back in half an hour with a lid, take his money to pay the piper, and then split. Thus you have both stoned and burned him. That was a lesson in advanced colloquial English, 1960's slang. Once this provocateur comes to the SPU Staff House on East 7th St., between C and D, this was 1963 or 1964, and says he wants to buy pot. So me make him up a super_mixture with all the possible fakes and puns -- oregano, catnip, a few weeds from the street (if we didn't, we should have) , and a bit of dried doodoo from the catbox, since another slang term for pot, besides weed, is shit. The Rabbi's taught, do not, before dawn comes and so you can say the morning prayers -- daven shaharit, to use our language, not something out of a steepled clapboard on a New England hilltop -- the goyim remember to build their place of worship on the highest ground possible -- at least the belltower -- even though we forgot. I mean good wood New England Protestant churches, not those stone Catholic masoleums they call cahtedrals. Europe needs trees, said Columbus. That means, don't try to augment your archival memos to the Sufi's before breakfast. Especially if you drink filter coffee before you can see the coffee pot on the first try. But I digress. ================================================================õ1 OK ok, here's Kavanian's listing of his Collection of KIT's. I cut each one out as a seperate doc, and did the usual cut_and_paste into Word 2000 and then Save_As text_only -- whch is precisely what one should do for an optimally accessible searchable data_base. Now I have to go back to that collection, make sure I got them all -- I mean Microsoft wouldn't maybe go bannkrupt -- and I bet they do, dinosaurs are not usually allowed to buy life_insurance policies -- if they put a little reminder on screen of what you've got in your Click_C Mouse -- and prune out a few duplicates. So ok already, here it is: GET =kittc.txt Here it is Sir, said the Gremlin: ----------------- Keeping in Touch A Letter by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan collected by Kaivan@Centrum-Universel.com 1 - Christmas Message 2 - Mastery - the Effect of Retreats 3 - Bringing Spirituality Into Everyday Life 4 - Love 5 - Looking Ahead 6 - The Sinai Gathering 7 - Dreams 8 - High Key versus Low Key - Part I 9 - High Key versus Low Key - Part II 10 - What is Spirituality 11 - Awakening and Creativity 12 - Christmas Message II 13 - Ecstasy In Action 14 - Dharamsala 15 - Music as a Training in Harmony 16 - The Other Side of Life 17 - Service 18 - Khumba Mela Invitation 19 - The Leading Edge 20 - Towards a New Approach 21 - Reflections on Noor's Birthday 22 - Attaining Peace 23 - On Retreat 24 - Khumba Mela 25 - Interface Spirituality Psychology 26 - The Hierarchy 27 - On the Teachings of Murshid 28 - Perfume of the Rose 29 - On the Champs - Elysees 30 - The Guru Syndrome 31 - Spirituality in Real Life 32 - Our Many Faceted Personalities 33 - Creativity 34 - Are We Being Tested 35 - Awakening & Enlightenment 36 - Old Wine in New Bottles 37 - Suffering & Creativity 38 - A Palate Full of Colors 39 - Spiritual Power 40 - Faith and Belief 41 - Miracles Do Happen 42 - Death & Resurrection 43 - The Dance of the Cells 44 - Our Solar Initiation 45 - The Critical Issues 46 - The Human Drama and the Cosmic Celebration 47 - On Resentment 48 - The Next Step 49 - Leadership 50 - The Human Drama 51 - God : Idea or Experience 52 - Therapy 53 - The Temple as Refuge for the Sacred 54 - The Temple of Celestial Light 55 - Transformation -Resurrection 56 - Mirror Images 57 - Freedom 58 - Suffering and Joy 59 - Healing the Wounds of the Psyche 60 - The Astronaut of the Mind 61 - A Dream 62 - Peace in the Cosmic Drama 63 - Meditation in Addiction Reduction 64 - Suffering 65 - Ibn 'Arabi's Vision of Beauty 66 - Embodying States of Consciousness 67 - Ring Out the Old, Ring In the New 68 - Dreams 69 - Global Thinking 70 - Preparing for Resurrection 71 - Future Spirituality 72 - Meditation Aftereffect 73 - Understanding - Meaningfulness 74 - God Archetype - Human Exemplar 75 - Stages of the Mass 76 - Inner Experience of the Mass 77 - Practices 78 - A Dream in a Dream 79 - Turning Within - Part I 80 - Turning Within - Part II 81 - Practices Leading to Illumination 82 - Heaven and Earth Interspersed I 83 - Heaven and Earth Interspersed II 84 - A New Impulse on the Dhikr 85 - Steps Toward Awakening 86 - Arwah - Identifying with the Subtle Bodies 87 - Mithal - Metaphor: Creative Imagination 88 - Extending Consciousness and Turning Within 89 - Malakut - The Celestial Level 90 - Jabarut - Perennial Level: Realization 91 - Lahut - The Divine Inheritance 92 - Hahut - Consciousness of the Unity 93 - Tawhid - Only God 94 - Spirituality for Our Time 95 - The Inner Journey Part I 96 - The Inner Journey Part II 97 - Why the Wazifa 98 - Peering into the Basics 99 - Awakening beyond & in Life 100 - Modes of Thinking 101 - Elemental Breaths: Earth and Water 102 - Elemental Breaths: Fire and Air 103 - Psychological & Spiritual Needs 104 - The Test of Authenticity 105 - Strategy for Dealing with the Ego 106 - The Banquet 107 - Escape 108 - Finding A Wider Perspective 109 - Personal Development & Achievement 110 - Stalking the Light 111 - Freeing from Restrictive Concepts 112 - Awakening Leading to Illumination 113 - Practices Leading to Enlightenment 114 - Unconditional Love 115 - What is the Universel 116 - The Dance of Joy 117 - The Universel / The Message 118 - Updating our Understanding of Spirituality 119 - Sincerity 120 - Curriculum of the Sufi Order 121 - The Art of Personality 122 - Prayer - Key to Personal Creativity 123 - Millenium Message 124 - Buddhism and Sufism - Part I 125 - Comparison Between Buddhism and Sufism World Crisis - The Spiritual Approach 132 - Our Wounded Humanity 133 - I have a Dream Enjoy the Challenge War or Peace Institutionalization of Spirituality 136 - The Message of Forgiveness 137 - What is Meditation? -- including sections by TIK -- ================================================================ OK, HERE IS PVK'S 'CURRICULUM OF THE SUFI ORDER: The Teachings of the Hazrat Inayat Khan, Presented by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, Including parallels with the ancient Sufis' I would say that this is a standalone, suitable for publication as a book. for distribution to Representatives (as intended), available to mureeds (as intended), and distribution to university libraries and other institutions for the serious study of mysticism and Islam. The fact is tht books ain't obsolete, because nobody but a pop artist wants to read those blinking little pixels, not even on an LED screen. As for CRT monitors, save them for landfill. I do not think that editting is needed, nor that it would be appropriate. I do think that a CD_hypertext edition would be appropriate, linking the various quotes from the ancient Sufis to whatever source materials are available on internet. Such a hypertext edition would of course be distributed and used in conjunction with the SO USA SEATTLE HIK CD. I would say that extensive commentary would be appropriate, by anyone who can offer it. Some of that commentary would, of course, be critical. I assume that it is only a matter of time before PVK is recognized as one of the most important philosophers of at least his era. One of the strengths of hypertext is that you don't have to lose much time worrying over who is and ain't and is but also ain't qualiied to offer commentary, or even do an edit, with hypertext you always have the original at hand, and can take or leave any or all of the lesser fleass, as_it_is_said, "The little fleas have littler fleas / upon their backs to bit 'em . / The littler fleas have littler still / and so ad infinitum." ( That quote must be from anonymous British schoolboys, anyone else in the world would have better taste than that. ) OK: I would say that this 'Curriculum of the Sufi Order' -- rather a pretntious title, in the non_pejorative sense of that term, as a designated heir to the monarcy may be said to be ?retender to the Throne -- is PVK's attempt to secure his place in the Silsa. I would guess that he succeeds, but I am not remotely qualified to evaluate that. He surely demonstrates a comprehensive knowlege of HIK: he seems to have HIK's entire works at his fingertips, hopping from one book to another in a single paragraph. It's my impression that this teaching is implicit, not explicit. Which is one place that commentary would come in. With Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations, the problem was not in understanding what he said -- we ain't talking quantum theory here, so all that fuss over a bilingual edition was not really necessary -- heck, he wrote ok, but Bauhaus -- clean and simple -- we ain't even talking Faust I here, a depth so well_carved that one can't but lose in translation -- but in figuring out why he said it. Wittgenstein says that in his introduction -- my books are still in storage, I hope, at Moshav Yonaton on the Golan north shore of the Kineret -- if I can ever pay the bill -- includes or included a lot of the old Message magazines -- the one editted by Munir (Sharif) Graham in Tuscon, and TIK -- Incidentally it appears that TIK may be at least amongst the foremonst of PVK's intellectual heirs -- if she don't bog down in psychology, maybe -- Cf. her co_authorship of PVK's last KIT -- KIT 137 -- =kit137.txt in my reformat set -- So anyhow, it was said of some great theoretician -- physics or mathematics, I forget which -- that he jumped from mountain_peak to mountain_peak, leaving it to his students to figure out how he got from one to the other -- So Wittgenstein says, in his Introduction to PI -- Philosphical Investigations -- 'I would not like to spare my students the trouble of thinking, but if possible to stimulate them to think for themselves'. That's quoting from memory. He also says, published in 'Culture and Value' if memory serves -- in Philosophy, the race is -- maybe he says 'sometimes' here -- to the slowest. If I ever do write on Wittgenstein, maybe I would try to explicate the unstated arguments in PI. That is very much related to his remark that he hoped that PI would be published with his remarks in Tractatus juxtaposed. I think he must have meant, interleaved, but his Idiot Executors, who dined high off that hog for a generation -- -- Finnegan's Wake might have been worthh the trouble to read it if Joyce hadn't been an Irishman, and a dirty old man at that -- My compliments to Chico d'Oro coffee, even if I do brew it through filter papers, so I don't have to wash the pot. That's chick's work, and I ain't got one just now. "And I can't think why." (Gilbert & Sullivan, Iolanthe, if I recall. ) You see in a sense PVK is post_modernist. But so is everyone nowadays, starting with T.S. Eliot and Bob Dylan, l_havdil. With Eliot on the -- dungheap, as the biblical euphemism puts it -- and Dylan up in the Akropolis on Mt. Parnassus, looking for the cold_cuts and Coca_Cola -- with potatoe chips of course, nothing comparable except perhaps brie cheese with red wine, in the unlikely case of one's having chanced upon an adequatae instance of each -- But I digress. And will again. Ask Falstaff. Everyone needs chutzpah. And R. Shlomo says in something I've input, To be humble does not mean to be a Schmendrik. You see, I'm very much post_modernist too. Again: What Bob Dylan mocks is the irony of incarnation. Or 'the irony of existence'. Whatever. I simply must learn Valley Girl English. The BBC is one of those dead_ends of cultural evolution. Where's Carl Shorske now that we really need him. "Though this be madness, yet there's method in it." (Hamlet, spoken by Polonius of course. A necessary prig.) So again, with all of us -- me, PVK, Bob Dylan, and even poor old T.S. Eliot -- not to mention Pound, who really could write and tried to hard to say something -- the trick is to uncover the connections between what superifically seems to be merely a conglomeration of unrelated quips and quotes. Was it Issac Asimov who worte, "the stars like diamonds" -- for the first time in my life, I really noticed one this pre_dawn -- thank heaven Western Civilization still has a few places with relatively little ambient light. Just above the ridge line in the western sky -- Agnieska would know which it is. She is likely rather a good astrologer. Seems to take Dane Rudhyar in passing. Astrology ain't my cup of tea, so who knows. They used to serve a nice cup of tea, with lemon and sugar, at that old Cafe on the top of the Midrahov, in Jerusalem. Only place you could get latke's at Chanukah. Last of the Yekke hangouts, darned near. But then they remodeled. OK, what I set out to do at the top of this 'page' was to add the subtitles to Kaivan's notation of the 'Curriculum' KITs: Curriculum 1 -- apparently originally released as KIT 126 Curriculum 2 -- Modes of Thinking: Limitation/Cosmic, Constraint/Freedom, Determinism/Creativity Curriculum 3 -- Turning Within, Part I -- Curriculum 4 -- Prayer: The Key to Personal Creativity Curriculum 5 -- Turning Within, Part II -- Curriculum 6 -- Working with LIght -- Illumination Curriculum 7 -- Lesson 7. So if I have more to say it will have to go into another doc. And I didn't even say 'Consciousness -- recipe for cous_cous.' Cous_cous is some sort of grain dish, its poor man's food, the Sephardim prepare it in great variety in Israel, and also Malik, who was born in Morocco or Tunis, I forget which, made quite a good one at Zenith this year. A very gallant and good man, with a fine family, lives now in Versailles, and surely merits and could maybe use whatever support anyone can give him. ------------------------------------------------ GOT IT. Mazaltov, I just found 2 duplicates of that file in my text_only Save_As. A total of 3 copies, not 1. I've got to go over to Linux. User_modifiable software is essential. A hierarchic organization, especially one that is going for common_denomnator users -- both lowest_common_denominator, and richest_common_denominator, in MicroSoft's case -- half their "Mother, I'd rather do it myself" gremlins are for affirmative_action jobsworth's who can't spell nor write English goode, the other half are for razmatazz offices trying to sell the rubes chocalate_coated__poopoo. Like, there's an unlimited variety of End_User needs -- though most software is written primarily for the people who write software, the End_User is just an excuse to get away from the wife and kids and banging door and come into a nice warm office and drink coffee with minimal social sexual and intellectual expectations -- so only open_source software, optimally modifiable by the end_useer, which means more top_level language stuff -- can hope to meet that variety of needs. A profit_oriented, hierarchic organization never will, that's why everyone hates MicroSoft. =============================================================== OK, here are notes on the Handbook for Mureeds, Hitherto input as: =hmaok.*, typo'd as =hhmaok.txt , Posted as such to sa73122c Briefcase and Website. Now first of all, I think I did a duplicate Click_V , so what I posted was 2 consecutive copies of that document. I'll go back and check that. Incidentally, I notice that PirTapes.nfo is only 9,043.968 K , whereas my Save-As text only of it was 1.5 Mb . So I have to do a resave of that. Maybe I did a Double_Click on that one too. Whatever Folio 4.11 is, ie whatever *.nfo files is, they ain't Word for Windows, in which its gibberish, no offense intended to Gibbons. Neither the writer nor the monkeys. So OK: Handbook for Mureeds, Editted by Atum o' Kane , (c) 1966 SO USA Seattle. This is a solid work, that clearly merits hardcobver publication for Mureeds. There are many articles by PVK, and many excerpts from HIK. The rest of the book is articles by the A-team -- Atum o' Kane, Sharif Graham, TIK, Suria Less, et. al. The page references I give below are to my Save_As__text_only of my Click_C__Click_V of the Folio 4.11 into Word 2000. The PVK articles in =hmaok.txt are the following: Liberated Spirituality -- pp8--11 Place of the Retreat -- pp29--31 The Retreat Process -- pp31--34 Variatioan on a Theme: An Invocation -- pp42-43 Purifcation Breaths: pp51--55 Putrifying the Aura -- pp55-57 The Awareness of Light in Life: p59 On Waziaf -- p58 Wazifa -- The Unfoldment of the Divine Seeds -- pp59--62 On the >Number of Repetitions for Waziaf -- pp62--63 Working with Wazifa -- pp63-.-65 Wazifa and The Purification Breaths -- pp65--67 Planes of Existence and Corresponding Waziaf -- pp67--70 Why the Wazifa -- ppp70--76 Invocation of Spiritual Hierarchy, Part I -- pp76--79 Invocation of Spiritual Hierarchy, Part II -- pp79--84 The Negative Dhikr -- pp94--96 The Second, Third, and Fourth Dhikr -- pp96--99 The Positive Dhikr -- pp99--104 Why the Suif Order at all -- pp104--106 The document ends at p113, with the address for Zira'at of Wahaba Phillipe. It is then followed by apparently a duplicate copy, which I may have put in by a Double Click__V. I'll check that. This apparent 2nd copy ends on page 223, which seems to be 3 pages short of a cooplete duplicate. As noted, I find that PirTapes.nfo is only 9,043.968 K , where my apparent text version of it was over 15 Mb. So I have to redo the Folio 4.11 to Word 2000 to text_only routine for it. But maybe that was just the Mac PirTapes. OK, at the moment I can't find my way back to those Infobases, so I'll have to drop it for now, and stick with the Q&D Workarounds. OK, I found the disc with the Windows version. The PVK material is in /Infobase Storage /Infobases is the HIK only -- OK, I did another Click routine on Handbook for Mureeds -- it comes out the same --- do the duplication was on the Folio 4.11 copy I worked from -- so I won't delete the 2nd half, in case there's any variation between the two halves -- -------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================== SO USA SEATTLE PVK TRANSCRIPTIONS, CopyRight 1995--1997 SO This is Infobase PirTapes from the SKX HIK CD I find PirTapes.nfo -- 9,043.968 K -- a Folio Infobase, to be opened with Folio Views for Windows. And open it does. I find =pvk9597.doc , in Word Format, clocking in at 32,616.960 K -- yup, that's about 32 Mb -- I ran another Save_As text_only on it, and it comes out just as the previous try, 15,790.304 K So I reckon that's the size of it, and I reckon I did not introduce any additional duplication until I chopped it up, and I reckon Folio Views 4.11 is using a compression to about 60% of the text_only size. -------------------------------------------------------------- Limitations of my Inventorying of PVK Tapes in =pvk9597.txt I'm doing with a simple Search, usually not case_sensitive, for 'Tape' -- The foolproof way to do it would be by scrolling, but that's an eye_strain, as_it_is_siad (by Abby Hoffman, zl'b), "The first duty of a revolutionary is to survive and eat breakfast." I do notice that occasionally the Microsoft 2000 Pro Search skips an instance. And of course I'm dependent upon Seattle having consistently used the world 'Tape' to mark the start of each new transcription. So far they seem to have done so. In most cases, but not all, these tapes occur in apparently complete sets -- all the PVK tapes of a seminar are apparently transcribed -- and occur in numeric sequence in the document. The date given is apparently usually, for all tapes of a seminar, the first day of the seminar, not necessarily the date on which the teaching was given. In general, the time of sessions is not noted on the transcription, nor the date. In general, the transcriber is not noted, where he/she is, I noted that. No indication is given of which the last tape of a series is. There are often gaps in the numeric sequence of tapes. It may be that some of the PVK tapes of that Seminar/Retreat were not transcribed. But it may instead be that those missing tapes were of talks by persons other than PVK. Well, I would have started each Session with a new Tape, but that ain't be done. These dudes don't correlate transcription_page with tape_position. Nor is is said where if anywhere the tapes now sit. Potatoes -- ptit pois, the little ones that cook quick -- must be darned near ready now. "And a feast_ale is a feast_ale" as R. Shlomo says in his retlling of Reb Nachman's story, "The Great Fixer." Hold the gruel and don't starch the sheets, senility is what you make of it. I got 3 wool blankets from Vanzetti. I mean, who cares if the dirty old man is senile or crazy, he still deserves all the pleasure he can get from life. Just don't let him sit on your antimascar nor goose the chambermaids much. Once Response, the magazine of Progressive Judaism -- they even published Joel Rosenberg's poems, and he's great -- ran a back_page ad , this is maybe in the early 1970's -- For Senile Dementia -- Thorazine -- and a drawing of an old geezer shaking his cane. That's Progressive for you. In traditional Judaism, they teach, honor your elders, even if you're sitting in the Roman Senate and your mother walks in the door and crowns you on the toga with a well_filled chamber pot. I reckon Seattle did it. I'm dumb but I ain't that dumb. I could double_click, but not unintentionally go back to doc1 to add something to doc5. So it looks like this_here treasure_trove was somebody's trash, rather than the last word from Seattle. Or to put it simple, Simon, there's presumably a later version of this stuff, at least a more polished one, maybe with more transcripts. So somebody go find the Pieman and tell him I want to buy one. OK, hold that calumny. I guess now that all the files in a Folio Views Infobase are duplicated, and that that's what Folio means by 'Shadow'. A set of backkup files, I suppose. But I don't know where the repetition occurs. It would be nice if it split at the midpoint, but I already hit a duplication in =pvk9597c.txt . So my guess is it occurs interspersed -- once you build up a long enough sequence, Folio inserts a duplicate of that segment before going on to the next file. If so, then I must continue slogging through this mess, because there's bound to be new stuff futher on. ================================================================ OK, so having done as Save_as of =pvk9597e up to page 88 and the Infobase Ends notation, as =pv9598e.txt , I now goes back to that doc at page 88 and lists what's left, and then will check it against my previous listings to confirm that its duplicate. -------------------------------------------------------------- RESUMING LISTING OF =pvk9597e.txt YES, THIS DOES APPEAR TO DUPLICATE =pvk9597a.txt p088: 15 Mar 1995, Tape 01 p092: 15 Mar 1995, Tape 02 p096: 15 Mar 1995, Tape 03 p100: 15 ;ar 1005. I should really go through =pvk9597f...=pvk9597i , listing all the entries and making sure they're all duplicates, but I'm betting they are. I've found make way back into the PirTapes Folio Views -- I don't notice duplication there. So my guess is that I'm right, that the duplication is latent, and that it comes out when I took Folio Views via Word 2000 into Save_As__txt_only No then -- I'm a bull in a virtual China Shop with computers. That's 'cause I never read manuals. (That's Sherdyl's line -- "Everybody got the shits here, except me. That's 'cause I drink beer.") Ain't got time. And anyhow, Help is so circumlocutious and verbose you'd think lawyers wrote it -- not to teach, but as defensive jurisprudence. Don't sue us, we can prove that we warned you. OK, I think this augmented HIK disc is somehow disc_dependent -- you have to re_install it from CD whenever you want to use it. And then I think that to get to the PirTapes, you have to go out of Windows into DOS and type Views (for Views.exe) This augmented disc has both Infobases and Infobase Storagae. PirTapes is in Infobase Storage.ù If you go in through Windows, all you see are the HIK Folders. So anyhow, I took a quick look at PirTapes through Folio Views 4.11, from which they were inseperable until I detached them, and under Folio Views I did not notice duplicates. So as I maybe said already, I think the duplication is introduced when one takes that Infobase via Word 2000 in txt. OK, enough for now. ================================================================= OK, As to the PVK Booklets -- I see that these are merely KITs 86 through 93, plus KIT 95 which serves as Chapter 1. Now I need to recheck this, but it seems this is only 13 pages. And I see no sign of duplication. =============================================================== I have no idea what PVK's Nachlass is. I assume it sits is Suresnes. As I've noted, I would like to see or know of the original manuscript typescript or input, whatever, originally submitted to Harper & Row for 'The Message in Our Time'. I would like to see that published for circulation amongst mureeds et al. I don't know quite who al is, but I'm sure we'll know them when we meet 'em, many or most of 'em anyhow. In 'Enjoy the Challenge', dated 2 June 2002, which I give docname =kit133_1.*, PVK writes, in passing, "I am strianing on the lead to write the book ordered by my publisher on Meditaiton and Science. Having their hand on the pulse of the mergin trend in the danvance of human thought." So that is a manuscript which one would like to know of, and see made available to mureeds et al. ================================================================== That's a wrap for now, I'm out of space on this doc. sa, Campra, 13 Nov '05 -- 11 CheShvaN -- grey cloudy day ==================================================================
