=zad052a Zenith '05 / ads & info & LINK's thereunto / Draft 2 /Save1 This is a substantial update of =zad051a, which I tried to send to the Zenith '05 Staff List, in mid_Sept '05 ---------------------------------------------------------------- TO: Zenith '05 WorkCamp Staff, CheeseStaff, LotusStaff, et. al FROM: Steve Amdur, Campra, CH-6718 Olivone, Switzerland sa73122c@yahoo.com www.geocities.com/sa73122 (holds some nice Zenith-related pictures) www.geocities.com/sa73122a (holds most of my R. Shlomo Carlebach transcriptions ) www.geocities.com/sa73122c (this is my current Website, for new Postings, the other two are filled) My Yahoo Briefcase AdobetoZenith (that's 'Adobe' not 'Abode', because that's what we built our rooms out of at New Buffalo Commune) holds my PVK transcriptions. If you don't know the Password, ask someone who does. --------------------------------------------- NEW: I've put more PVK material et al. on the Briefcase carried by the Spider of Website www.geocities.com/sa73122c User ID is sa73122c If you don't know the Password, ask someone who does. If all else fails, ask me. This is PVK material previously made available to Mureeds and similar Dudes, and distributed via the SO. For more of an overview, see the Readme doc in that Briefcase. I'm not entirely comofortable with having done this, it's arguably a certain infringement on copyright, and on estoeric classification. On the other hand, there is a priority to doing what one can to ensure that all extant PVK material is preserved -- to which muliple redundancy ("you can say that again" -- USA slang, 19490's) is a safeguard. And furthermore, on the first foot, there is a need to create the most comprehensive searchable PVK data_base possible, for those who wish to research PVK's thought on any particular topic -- eg, whoilistic treatements for cancer, or the possibility that (additional, if once includes humankind) intelligent life exists only on other galaxies. So transcription is not obsolete, although one gets far more from hearing PVK's words than from reading them. So we need both a text data_base and an audio data_base. A vido data_base too, of course, especially a data_base of all footage of PVK rehearsing and conducting the Bach B_Minor, and anything else as well. The eloquence of PVK's gestures -- and glance, as others have noted -- when he conducts, is astounding. PVK once remarked, if memory serves, that would have preferred to teach only through music, and attending his rehearsals of the Bach B_Minor, I could almost glimpse why. I am most greatful to the Polish people for encouraging me to do so, and to the choir members for making me feel welcome after I dared to make that "first step" (to use the title of R. Zalman Schachter's introduciton to religious Judaism, published by Lama Foundation ca. 1970 is reprinted in substantially reduced form in the first (red_cover) Whole Jewish Catalogue.) So OK for Alpolgiae, here's what I've posted to my sa73122c@yahoo.com Briefcase: This will be a minimal listing of those doscs, a more complete listing will appear in =pvin102*.txt, which will be added to that Briefcase, and should be posted to my Website, www.geocities.com/sa73122c Most of these files are in ZIP . I list the unzipped size. All are Save_As'd as Text_only (*.txt) The precise filename my differ from what I list below, particularly with regard to case_senitive . All materials noted here are copyright, in general by the SO, in other cases by PVK. Where I have broken a document into pieces, I may have left out some text, and surely have duplicated text. I will try to check and clean that up. ------------------------------------------------ =hmaok.txt -- 879.316 K Handbook for Mureeds, by Atum O'Kane ---------------------------------------------- =pvcm98.* PVK, Course on Meditation, 1998 This is broken into 4 files: Total filesize, 498.374K =pvcm0107.txt -- Lessons 1 through 7 =pvcm0824.txt -- Lessons 8 through 24 =pvcm2531.txt -- Lessons 25 through 31 =pvcm3246.txt -- Lessons 31 through 36 --------------------------------- =pvk9597.txt -- 15,790.304K (Yup, almost 18 Megabytes) These are transcriptions, done by the SO USA NO Seattle, of PVK talks (seminars, group retreats, lectures, whatever you call them) given 1995 though 1997, though it includes some in 1998. Because the 5 Mb limit on free Yahoo uploads was exceeded by both the text size and the zip size, I went back to the document that I Save_As'd as text_only, and chopped it into pieces. Now I have to go back to those pieces, list what's in each, try to make sure that I didn't leave anything out, and trim off all the overlaps. There are about 5 Mb of overlap. These pieces currently have docnames =pvk9597*.txt Where the * is a sequential letter, a through i. As I tidy each one up, I will rename it =pvk9598*.txt This is posted only to my Briefcase -------------------------- =HIKPlay1.txt -- 776.131K This is from the Shababudin/Katrina HIK disc. I do not know whether or not it is included on the official HIK disc. It holds Plays by HIK, followed by Religious Gahtekas starting with #43, and then followed by some sort of book, in Chapters, taken from lectures given in 1923. ------------------------- =twtbtwa -- 777.855 K -- "that which transpires behind that which appears" ------------------------------------------------------------- Leaders' Manual -- I think this is written entirely by PVK, butr maybe someone else, maybe Sharif Graham, had a hand into it. I broke it into 2 files, =LM1.txt, 1,633.057 K =LM2.txt , 867.879K Which, if my arithemtic holds, is a total of 1,500.936 K This is posted only to my Briefcase. ------------------------------------------------------------ =pvkbklt.txt -- 2,078.529 K -- Collected PVK Booklets ------------------------------------------------------ =tothone.txt -- 504.287 K -- "Toward the One" -- PVK's first book, published by Lama Foundation, republished by Harper & Row. Without the illustrations. ------------------------------------------------------ =============================================================== My Audio input of a few old SO and Zenith PVK Tapes is posted now only to the BigWigs, because I don't know where to find a Platform big enough to Post it to. Like, I'm looking for something like Grokster, but I don't know where to find it. So OK, that's who I am, "more or less." This Memo ain't even begun yet, here 'tis, 'Chiz' (Fn0): ----------------------------------------------------------------- Respects and best wishes to all. I hope that all is well with you, and yours, and that your work is going well. Things are ok at Campra. Restorante/Pension will be closed all November, until 6 December. Frost on the ground in the mornings. Had a week of continual grey -- mist or foehn or low clouds. Now it's clear skies. Milky Way beautiufl at night, mid_day sun lovely. ------------------------------ CAVEAT CAMPRAcat: The Campra Cat sits by the Restorante window in the snowiest weather. She will purr if you pat the window, but never come indoors. First of all, let me try to state clearly that I ain't a member of Zenith Staff, and never have been. That's because I flunked Coffee_break and got a D-minus in Circle. A fortiori, Mory, I ain't in any sense a spokesperson for, not speaking the name of, Zenith nor the SO(W) nor anything else. Again: I HAVE NO OFFICIAL POSITION WITH ZENITH NOR WITH THE SO, AND NEVER HAVE HAD EITHER. One summer, while I was at New Buffalo commune, in Arroyo Hondo, 10 miles up the Highway from Taos, New Mexico, we all got in the back of the flatbed truck and rode up to Lama Foundation for their Sunday Open House. The speaker that day was PVK. I was struck by his subtlety and precision of expression. That was in 1969, if memory serves, or a few years later, if it's out on strike today. About 1974, during Pesach -- I was hanging around Haverat Shalom in Somerville, Massachusetts, at the time -- it's the first (red_cover) Whole Jewish Catalogue, which is maybe the best introduction to religious Judaism for anyone coming from a New Age background -- Art Waskow's 'Seasons of our Joy' is also good -- so I went out to some place in some place named New Lebanon, New York -- you just take the Pittsfield___Albany bbus, get off at the State Line, and sled down the hill to the Dining Hall, where there should be some whole wheat bread and real butter on the sideboard. I was never a member etc. of the Abode, but I've been hanging around this crowd ever since, more or less. So OK, that was your Caveat, HepCat. Enough jive, Clive, here's the nitty-gritty, Kitty: --------------- NEW: BUT FIRST, AN AD: OK, seriously, this is a Fund Appeal from Rinatya Nachman (Tajali Hauschild) who lives at 24 HaShalom, Rosh Pina , 12000 Israel. She wants to produce an Interfaith calendar, and needs to raise 4 thousand dollars to do so. I append her Recipe for Chicken Soup: --------------------------------------------------------------- NEW; FUND APPEAL FROM RINATYA NACHMAN (Tajali Hauschild) TO PRODUCE AN INTERFAITH CALENDER: Her text follows: If we ask the majority of Israelis and Palestinians, "Do you want peace?", most will answer, "Yes, we do." But they don't --- The very first step to peace in the Holyland is laying a foundation of mutual trust, getting to know one another, sharing joy and sorrow, feeling enhanced by differences -- and foremost: celebrating life's events with each other in the circle of the year! For 2006 we want to create a calendar, which gives us easy access to the various Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Druze ( and Bahai ) holidays, celebrated in the land . - days of rejoycing as well as days of mourning, fasting and purification. For the first edition we want to start small, hopefully making the project an ongoing success in the years to come. Our topic for 2006 will be eye_to_eye --- Palestinian and Israeli women. We welcome sponsors, especially those who are interested in sharing idea and visions besides money. The calendar will be trilingual -- English, Hebrew and Arabic. Distribution will be mainly by grassroots peace organisations. [ The expense of this Project is presently estimated at USD 4000. Present plans are to use any excess of ] incoming money for a specific project promoting dialogue between Jewish and Palestinian children and youth. We are awaiting your contributions. Please get in touch with me: renatia@bezeqint.net or Aura: auraoded@yahoo.com Thank you, Shukran, Todah! Shalom and Salaam Aura, Dorit, Rinatya ------------------------ AND HERE IS RINATYA'S RECIPE FOR CHICKEN SOUP: So here is my chicken soup recipe: ( you measure, because it tastes good a second day, too, if you have a fridge - or might be really yummy to invite afriend) Ingredients not to be missed: legs of chicken carrots, cut coursely Equal ammounts of the following three ingredients: purree ( if you do not have purree, use onions, not more than 2 medium), garlic, Celery stalks, cleaned and cut in cubes ( same sizes as carrots) Half a lemon, cut in 2 ( or a whole lemon, if you prefer a more tart taste ) Bayleaf ( if you don't have a bayleaf, chaval) The following ingredients are optional: potatoes, cut in cubes Parsely [ sparesely ] Put the ingredients in pot, cover nicely with water, cook on very low flame, minimum 1 hour, better 1 1/2 to 2 hours, cook until the meat is off the bones, adding water, if necessary, Remove the bones from the pot, and also remove the lemon and bayleaf, cut the meat in eatible sizes season with salt and pepper Optional: add any of the following: oregano( not much), the celery leaves, green onions, parsley cook to boiling once more, let sit, take from heat, season with white wine ENJOY! with a piece of garlic bread, brown bread, whatever --- Hope this will warm your body, heart and Jewish soul. Chag Succot Sameach! Rinatya [ That concludes Rinatya's Recipe for Chicken Soup. I have added only the remarks in [ brackets ] ] --------------------------------------------------------------- OK, HERE'S WHO THIS MEMO GOES TO: If I don't run out of the ptits pois I stole from the Kitchen, , this_here Memo will go to all the Email addresses on the Zenith 'AddressenListe Staff 2005'. At the suggestion of young Miss Eggers, our Admnistrative Secretary, I will list all those names as BCC's, for fear of SPAM. There are 128 names on that list, "more or less"(Fn1). Most have Email addresses. None have Websites. (1) So Email me your Website, with a Dexcription of you like, and I'll try to Post it to my Website. OK, HERE'S AN UPDATE ON THAT: I sent the first draft out to every Email address on the Zenith '05 except the Management Troika, to whom this will also go, Joe. "It seemed like a good idea at the time." But there were some SNAFU's (Situation Normal, All Foodlededoo'd Up -- USA WWII slang). First of all, Yahoo places an unnumerated limit on the number of names to which one can send at one time, so I had to chop up the list into clusters. Second, some Email platforms that receive an Email sent to numerous addresses classify it as SPAM. Some platforms, notably Yahoo, simply shunt it into a 'BULK' Folder. Other platforms apparently reject it. I think that is the meaning of the term 'Protocol error', but I don't yet know. Also, of course, I can't make my compilation available to anyone else who might want to use it -- eg the Zenith and SO offices -- for fear that this might be intercepted by a real SPAMer. So the Workaround seems to be to create a real LIST. The easiest free way to do this would seem to be Yahoo Groups. Maybe I will do that, if I can make time. But I can not and do not want to be a Moderator. It don't hurt to have a Moderator, and I see no objection in principle -- free speech is a means. not an end -- a means to optimal dialectic refinement of ideas. But one must expect anyone associated with the SO to adhere to the usual codes of proper behavior -- a Sufi, whatever a Sufi is, does not steal, does not lie, and does not talk badly of another behind his/her back (especially if it ain't true, but even if it is), and does not directly nor indirectly accuse others of such behavior (except in an exception, and an exception must really be an exception), and does not indulge in uncivil discourse, even on Internet. ---------------------------------------- (2) I have Posted to my Website #3 , viz. 'tis www.geocities.com/sa73122c NEW: UPDATED RIVELLA: The direct LINK is: www.geocities.com/sa73122c/zrv052c.txt which obsoltes =zrv051b.txt ( Zenith / "Rivella" / '05 / Draft 2 / Version c ) "Rivella '05" is my listing of all the essential info, if any, on all the flyers I could scrounge from the TeaTent Info Table of Coming Sufi Events. So you can send me more info to add to it, but Text (*.txt) only, because I ain't got room on a 15 Mb Yahoo Geocities Free Website for graphics. UPDATE 30 Oct -- 27 Tishrei -- 27 Ramadan: I have received no further input for this Listing. --------------------------------------------------------------- (3) At the request of M. Roehrs to all Staff -- made in 1990, if memory serves -- I have completed my annual Zenith Evaluation , and posted it to my Website. All other Staff Members -- past, present, and future -- should do likewise, and then Email the LINK therunto. Alternatively, you can Email me your Comments, including disagreements with any point I try to make, and I will try to incorporate same in the next Draft of my Evaluation. Anonymous comments -- ie, Sent on condition of withholding Name and Email of Sender -- are, if not quite 'B_Seder' (Fn2), acceptable. All the preceeding is 'Bli Neder'. (Fn3) Reckon that's about it for now. UPDATE 30 Oct '05 I have received on this matter no feedback, input, nor LINK's to the Evaluations of others. I have substantially editted this evaluation, and do not plan to do again, unless I get such feedback etc. Because I write only in EinsteinWriter, which has a filesize limit of 65K, this doc is chopped arbitrarily into two sections. So the direct links are: www.geocities.com/sa73122c/zev055a.txt www.geocities.com/sa73122c/zev056a.txt ----------------------------------------------------- I have gone through the Zenith Songbook and made a few minor corrections, mostly to the Jewish songs. The direct LINK to those corrections is: www.geocities.com/sa73122c/zcsongs.txt ------------------------------------------------------------------ OK, here's some Lost_and_Found notes: I am presently holding in my shack the following, which can be claimed by the owner: (1) a natural_wool lady's shawl or blanket, white with grey stripes, appeared in the xRugRoom after y'all had left (2) a heavy natural wool rug, white and brown, which I recently liberated from the back room of the Staff House, where it has been sitting since at least last autumn, for fear the mice would not make of it nice usage. (3) a nicely woven carpet bag, left in the garage with a small pillow and a Bach B_Minor text. (4) a yuppie AlpenStock, retractable with shock absorber, left near the Departing Luggage and subsequently passed through the Official Lost_and_Found (5) An old Horner Harmonica, left in the StaffHouse kitchen after SetUp Camp. And that's about it, except of course for the odd suitcase of unmarked hundred_dollar bills, which will most likely be of only lithographic value, the way Georgie Bush is spending his Uncle Saml's money. ------------------------------------------------------------- I have been trying since last spring to create an Unofficial Staff Free Loan Fund. Too many times, though not in recent years, I have seen some of the best Zenith Staff, especially Polish people, obliged to hitch_hike to Camp or back home. OK, I set that Fund up with a token deposit of CHF 100, from which I borrowed back CHF 90, but should soon replace it. Obviously, a bona fide loan fund requires at least one co_signer, such that money can be disbursed from it only with the assent of all co_signers. So far I have approached 4 people, and have not yet received an assent. So for now, I should accept only pledges for contributions to that loan fund, conditional on its getting a co_signer. And now, if anyone wants to serve as a co_signer, drop me a note. the direct link for further info on that Fund is: www.geocities.com/sa73122c/lonfnd1b.txt --------------------------------------------------------------- With best wishes to all. Steve Amdur ------------------------------- Footnotes: 'more or less' -- Celso, Celso's Bar and Grill, Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico (where New Buffalo commune maybe still exists as a B&B & Seminar Center , about 10 miles and 2000 feet from Lama Foundation 'B_Seder' -- in order 'Bli Neder' -- No promises, so if I'm caught en route in an avalanche don't sue me. 'Chiz' was Bill Helbing's cat, UC Santa Barbara Graduate School of Philosophy, Pothead Division, '67--'69. (An English translation of this Memo is available upon request; please send CHF 100 and a stamped__self_addressed envelope to practically anyone. ) ------------------------------------------------------------------ sa, Campra, Sunday 29 Aug '05 -- 24 Av -- 23 Rajab (Memo only) =================================================================ù
