=kittc2j.txt OK, this doc is full now, so I'll continue it on =pvin512*.txt This is an enhanced version of the KIT Table of Contents that I include in =pvin511L.* It also includes a tidier list on the PVK SO Seattle transcriptions on the SKX HIK_plus disc. And a slap_dash bibliography that should include some of the sources cited in the KITs. And intermittent unsolicited words of wisdom. ================================================================ Speaking of which, here are my -- revised -- closing remarks from =kit137.txt, which is the last KIT in =kit1137.zip ------------------- This concludes the KITs, except for the 28 'Curriculum' KITs, which I have hitherto packed into a ZIP and Posted. I'll post these as a seperate doc. There is however a considerable overlap, much of the 'Curriculum' material is included in these KITs. And that ain't all duplication, much substantive Curriculum material will be found only in these KITs, I reckon. I doubtless should have Deep_6'd my 'Comments from the Peanut Gallery' to a seperate doc or two, to be called something like =kitsap*.txt And anyone who wants to do so is welcome to. But I found I didn't have to so I didn't and I'm busy so I won't. Well, I did not really want to ruffle anyone's feathers, much less hurt anyone's feelings, and I do apologize for the former and beg pardon for the latter. Running through successive EinsteinWriter T.EXE converts to ASCII, with a forced Line_Length of 65 chars, results in chopped_up lines. Regrets, but I'll not make time to fix it. With respects and best wishes to all, as always Steve Amdur, Campra, CH-6718 Olivone, Switzerland sa73122@yahoo.com Z. Campra, 2 Dec '05 -- Rosh Hodesh KisLev -- first day of Dhu al- Qi'dah I expect -- Light snow falling here -- Restorante/Pension has reopened, so y'all can come visit and/or retreat here -- ================================================================ IMPORTANT EDITORIAL NOTES FOR FUTURE WORK: N.B. I present all my work in text_only format. More precisely, this is the end result of EinsteinWriter's T.EXE, which reduces it all to ASCII. I THINK THE LINE_LENGHT IS ALWAYS 65 CHARS, AND THAT EACH LINE ENDS WITH A REQUIRED CR. CR stands for carriage_return. In ancient times, that was how you started a new line on a typewriter. A typewriter was an Old Age computer keyboard with extraordinary though not mellow sound effects. ----------------------------------------------------------------- [ OK, sports fans, let us have two editorial rules: Quotations are enclosed in "quotation marks", and ellipses ... are used only to indicated that text has been omitted from a quotation. Eliipses are not used to indicate .... a graceful pause in phrasing. Dashes will do --- adequately for that. (sa) ] And let us agree that text_only is the 'industry standard' for this work. And all the Kaivan set of KIT's must be cross_checked against the 'SOS'='SUFI ORDER SURESNES' originals, either the harcopy that was mailed out, or the original input. [ Incidentally, it's time for the Germans to stop putting those little fly_poops on top of their vowels. Umlaut no doubt. And the same to you, Parlez_Vous, with all your kippot and ski_slope. Let us all henceforth write in normal ASCII English, thank you very much, as the Brits say in their archaic dialect.] ----------------------------------------------------------------- PART I: Augmented Table of Contents for Kaivan KIT 'Curriculum' files: Copied from =pvin511L OK, what I set out to do at the top of this 'page' was to add the subtitles to Kaivan's notation of the 'Curriculum' KITs: Curriculum 1 -- apparently originally released as KIT 126 Curriculum 2 -- Modes of Thinking: Limitation/Cosmic, Constraint/Freedom, Determinism/Creativity Curriculum 3 -- Turning Within, Part I -- Curriculum 4 -- Prayer: The Key to Personal Creativity Curriculum 5 -- Turning Within, Part II -- Curriculum 6 -- Working with LIght -- Illumination Curriculum 7 -- Lesson 7. That means that 1G and 2G are no 'ohsoleted', ie, supplanted with tider versions. 1G was my chopup of =pvin9597.* The problem with 1G was that ('SOS'='SO SEATTLE') presents its Infobases in Folio 4.11 , and Folio 4.11 apparently creates a duplicate file, which it terms a 'Shadow File'. That duplicate file was included in my Save_As__text_only So then I went to 2G 2G cuts out the duplicate file, which exists in pieces in my 1G chopout So this Revised Inventory , I hope, cuts out those duplicate listings. Please note that, although my ChopUp is arbitrary and untidy, you're stuck with it until you redo it better. THE PAGE NUMBERS IN MY CHOPUP ARE ESSENTIAL That is: If you are searching a phrase, your Report should give you filename -- which is one of the 5 pieces of my ChopUp -- and the page number within that file. And my inventory, which follows in this doc, correlates the page number within the file in my ChopUp, to the date of the seminar (impreisely, since each page of each of the 5 docs in my chopup lists maybe 20 tapes, and so may span several consecutive seminars.) Anyhow, I named my 2G non_duplicative revision of my 1G Chopup, =pv9598a .... =pv9598e . I have posted that to my Website www.geocities.com/sa73122c , and to my Yahoo Briefcase attatched to sa73122b@yahoo.com But when I posted it, I saw that , although the Save_As__Text_only in Windows 2000 has a line_lenght no longer than the screen, the display via Explorer -- an up_to_date version, I assume -- does not; there the line_lenght is not limited, so the doc ain't hardly readable. So now I've gone to a 3G. That version of the chopup has filenames =pvj9598a.txt ... =pvj9598e.txt I produced it simply by taking the 2G through EinsteinWriter's T.EXE , into ASCII one more time. Hopefully, that will display on my Website with a readable line_length, most likely 65 chars. Hopefully, the page numbers will still coincide with the page numbers in the Word 2000 text_only version, but I wouldn't bet on it. If they don't, maybe they do in 2G Briefcase version. If not, you might have to back to the 1G version, which still sits om the Briefcase attatched to -- sa63122c@yahoo.com -- or maybe to adobetozenith@yahoo.com Yup, I think so. [ Footnote kittc2*::1] So the 1G sits in Folder /pvk0411 in the Briefcase attatched to adobetozenith@yahoo.com And the 2G wits in Folder /PVKSUKKOT in that same Briefcase =pv9497a.txt -- 'Rav Transcriptions' CopyRight 1995-7 SO (USA, Seattle) Start page 1, End page 298 EVIDENTLY TUSCON, ARIZONA , 15-19 MARCH 1995 p001: 15 Mar '95, Tape 01 p005: 15 Mar '95, Tape 02 p008: 15 mAR '95, Tape 03 p013: 15 Mar '95, Tape 04 p018: 16 Mar '95, Tape 05 p022: 16 Mar '95, Tape 06 p028: 16 Mar '95, Tape 07 p033: 16 Mar '95, Tape 08, TUSCON ARIZONA P038: 17 Mar '95, Tape 09 p043: 17 Mar '95, Tape 10 p053: 17 Mar '95, Tape 11 p055: 17 Mar '95, Tape 12 p061: 18 Mar '95, Tape 13 p064: 18 Mar '95, Tape 14 p070: 18 Mar '95, Tape 15 p076: 18 Mar '95, Tape 16 p082: 19 Mar '95, Tape 17 p088: 19 Mar '95, Tape 18 TRANSCRIBER NOTES: LAST TRANSCRIPT FOR THIS RETREAT =============================================================== PVK, ST. =============================================================== I want to add whatever info I can find on dates of the KIT's. Zenith has for years sold a printed booklet of KITs 31 + 61--72. In that booklet it is noted that KIT is available by a "12 issue one_year subscription", It is also noted that: "For a large part of the year Pir Vilayat now spends his days in his 'egales nest' (this is how he calls his office on the top of Fazl Manuil in Suresnes), in a retreat atmosphere, entereing what is comign through into this comptuer. The quintessence of his writings are published in Keeping in Touch." That does imply that these KIT's are summaries of larger bodies of writing. I happen to now have at hand, in hardcopy, the booklet of KIT 31 + 61__72 , and also loose xeroxes of 96__98 , 100__103, 105, 107, 110, If memory serves, I am indebted to Rinatya Nachman for having lent me those KIT's to photocopy. I notice in that hardcopy that very often quotes are not enclosed in quoatation marks, but only put in italics. So that lack carries over in the Kaivan set of KIT's, although Kaivan also sets off quotes in a blue font. Cross_checking the Kaivan KIT's against the few hardcopy KIT's I have, I see that sometimes, though not often, Kaivan fails to note quotes as such. Also sometimes, though not often, the hardcopy diveges from the Kaivan. Usually, but not always, these divergences are not substantive. The most common divergence is inserting a paragraph_break. Usually, but not always, the hardcopy seems to be an earlier draft of the text given in Kaivan. Again, this Save_As__text_only set of KIT's strips out the font_blue and italics that Kaivan uses to identify quotes. Usually, but not always, quotes are not enclosed in "quotation marks" in the hardcopy, and accordingly are not in the Kaivan. I am cross_checking this set of KIT's against the Kaivan, and intend to have completed that cross_check before Posting them, but of course I may miss some quotes. ("Gosh, Batman -- are you perfect?" "No, Robin. Not --- perfect." as_it_is_said, "Nobody's perfect." ) And so in sum: That means that this set of KIT's must be cross-checked against the hardcopy. [ IMPORTANT EDITORIAL NOTE (sa): All of my set of KIT's -- ie, this Save_As__Text_only copy of the Kaivan set of KIT's -- should be cross_checked against the origianal hardcopy, or better, against the original input, presumably held by ZR at Suresenes -- as I notae elsewhere, in 1999 he had offered to bring me a CD of that input when he came to Israel. I am finding numerous instances where was I took as a quote from HIK , because it is in italics and blue_font in Kaivan, is in non_italics in the hardcopy, and hence is presumably by PVK, not HIK. I make that mistake when the passage in question is the not_last - - usually, the first -- of 2 or more quottes, of which the last is identified in Kaivan, and in hardcopy, as a quote from HIK. When I make this assumption, I cite it as '(HIK)' or as '(HIK, presumably)' or some equivalent phrase. When the citation is in the hardcopy and in Kaivan, it almost always occurs as 'Pir-o'Murshid Inayat Khan', though sometimes as some equivalent honorific. ] ================================================================õ1 OK ok, here's Kavanian's listing of his Collection of KIT's. I cut each one out as a seperate doc, and did the usual cut_and_paste into Word 2000 and then Save_As text_only -- whch is precisely what one should do for an optimally accessible searchable data_base. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Keeping in Touch A Letter by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan collected by Kaivan@Centrum-Universel.com [ Note (sa): In at least one case (KIT 98), and I think that also in a few other cases, Kaivan's titles ain't complete. When I've noticed that and was not unduly spaced out, I have completed the title. As noted, Kaivan sometimes mis_formats a remark apparently by PVK as if it were a quote from the dude cited after the last of a short series of consecutive quotes. And in some instances Kaivan makes this apparent mistake with a standalone quote. Whenever the quote ain't immediately attributed in Kaivan, I add a presumed attribution. I always put such presumed attributions in (parentheses), with the appended remarked 'I presume' or something equivalent. When I do that with what I take to be quotes from HIK -- for in one of the early KIT's PVK remarks that any unattributed quotes are from HIK -- I use the abbreviation 'HIK'. The abbreviation 'HIK' never -- "well, hardly ever" (Gilbrt & Sullivan's Something) occurs in Kaivan, nor, presumably in the origianl hardcopy. So far I have not found substantive differences, except between Kaivan KIT 30 vs. SOS KIT 31. It is my impression that the SOS set is an earlier draft. Or maybe the Kaivan set was lightly editted. One would be tempted to try a rewrite of it, and hope that somewhat would set it to music and make a dance of it. I do not think that editting is needed, nor that it would be appropriate. I do think that a CD_hypertext edition would be appropriate, linking the various quotes from the ancient Sufis to whatever source materials are available on internet. Two major parts of such a hypertext link arae already in place. The HIK quotations should all, or anyhow most of them, be in the SO SEATTLE CD. That was 1986, if I recall. It is Searchable, by phrase and by volume / section of HIK's works, and reports back both. The Koran (Qu'ran) has been input by KAIVAN as part of his Sufi Media CD. He inputs the Yusuf Ali translation, which he says was HIK's "favorite" translation. PVK notes in one case that this is the translation that he used, so I would guess he used it for all his quotations for Koran, except insofar as he was quoting from memory. Such a hypertext edition would of course be distributed and used in conjunction with the SO USA SEATTLE HIK CD. I would say that extensive commentary would be appropriate, by anyone who can offer it. Some of that commentary would, of course, be critical. I assume that it is only a matter of time before PVK is recognized as one of the most important philosophers of at least his era. It's my impression that the teaching in PVK's Curriculum is implicit, not explicit. Which is one place that commentary would come in.
