=kit009sa Summary and Witty Quips played upon PVK KIT 009, the which is, viz: KIT 9 - High Key versus Low Key - Part II This is clearly a direct continuation of KIT 008. PVK begins: "Of course, it means growing up. It means being intensely alert and aware and luminous - not just aware of the "here and now", but of the "everywhere and always" (which, incidentally, must not be confused with the "nowhere and never" - often the outcome of spacing out, easily taken to be Samadhi). Being aware does not just mean being acutely observant of what is happening around and about one, with particular regard to its relevance to one's objective, but of all that lies behind the apparent situation and the implications of this objective, and what is more, of what are the issues behind one's objective."(PVK KIT 009) PVK advises pursuing a goal (Cf. HIK, "Mastery through Accomplishment") but doing so with flexibility. "However definite one is about one's purpose, one may be advised to be versatile enough to totally reprogram one's course in view of the lay of the territory encountered." (PVK KIT 009) Well, in needs no guru to tell us that; one could read it in the Herald Tribune Business pages. And there's much to encourage the most hard_hearted neo_con "The challenge of life requires of one to be highly astute. First, one may be able to observe how people, perhaps unwittingly, tend to draw one into their problems ("laying their trips on one" - in American)."(PVK KIT 009) PVK goes into some detail on the emotional, interpersonal, and spiritual risks in naively attempting to help others. Brecht (who, as a Communist, was committed to social justice (no Stalinist irony intended) ) only sketched it. (kit009_1) PVK adds: "As one matures, one learns how to help without being burdened, how to function like a 'sannyasin,' an initiate, in life." (PVK KIT 009) These remarks are particularly relevant too, and a a warning for, SO leaders. But they are also relevant to anyone trying to good for others, from a spouse to a sub_continent. PVK remarks -- and I am only noting highlights, not attempting a comprehensive summary of this KIT; "Redressing current situations and relationships after reassessing them requires even more insight, assiduity and courage than dealing with new situations, because one has to safeguard people's pride while weaning them." (PVK KIT 009) Well, there are lots of useful suggetions here for interpersonal work, and I can only note a few: Eg, PVK remarks: "People love clarity, and are excited by new points of view, and will value these, providing one does not criticize their narrowness, of which they are themselves not aware, even as we have a blind spot in our own eyes. On the other hand, people tend to feel threatened by a point of view that takes away the walls of the false security of their commonplace values." (PVK KIT 009) Why can't somebody invent a pair of reading glasses with windshield wipers -- and a mini_spritzer of detergent, of course. Defroster optional. Motors are miniaturizng you know. Or do it with smart nano_molecules. *** %%% ZOWIE FOR HOWIE ================================================================== COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY: ** Whatever these KITs are, they're a heck of a lot more than monthly newsletters to the students. With a good professional editor, with a mind strong and calm enough to encompass PVK's thought, these KITs should make a good solid book of essays, maybe like 'Toward a Meaningful Life' by the Lubavitcher Rebbe (Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, editted by that Rabbi Dude in Crown Heights who did the 49 Steps of the Omer booklet. Only these essays are a few orders of magnitude more complex -- and should stay that way -- than what was published -- and very effectively so -- as an intentionally popular_sytle book of the Lubavither Rebbe's thought. Still, one would like to see the original shiurim etc. from which that book was edited. Again, the potentialities of electronic publishing have barely been opened. It is not a duplicate of hardcopy, but a hypertext reference resource. Not something to read on the sofa before the fireplace, but something to keep on your hard_disc. Well, I'm turning into a two_fisted drinker, (just like Dean Rusk, the guy who trashed the Vietnames peninusla, and burnt its beautiful delicate culture in jellied gasoline): one cup of hot black coffee, and one cup gone lukewarm. "Pick it up and drink it down" ('Hot chocolate, a USA pop song, 1950's), That's how the frumies drink their whiskey, so don't waste the good stuff at a kiddish. At least they drink it straight, they don't do Chiva_and_Ginger_ale , or Rum_and_cola. I mean, even Rum has some pride, you can find a rum analog of "sippin' whiskey" if you look long enough. If the Ay_rabs think they're gonna drink whiskey and wine in the world_to_come, they're in for a disappointment, from what I read. Judaism says of Shabat, and of the world_to_come too: If you didn't do it before the door closed behind you, you ain't gonna be able to buy it at a Convenience Store up there, even if everything is 24/7. Even Jssus said that: "store up treasure in heaven". But I digress. ----------------------------------------------------- And there's much to encourage the most hard_hearted neo_con (kit009_1) (No wishy_washy touchy_feely bleeding_hearted liberals we, even if we'd rather drown Bushies than puppies.ÿ
