We have the power to make 5 minutes forever.

R. Shlomo tells a story about the Alexander Rebbe, concluding withthe Alexanderer's point that everyone needs two friends: one tohelp you, and one to cry with you.

*"This world is deeper than heaven. Heaven is holy -- but whatmakes you think the deepest thing in the world is holiness?"

There are teachings you have to put in the bank, and there are"cash Tora's" -- you can have them [at hand, to use] all the time.

Anything you can say aloud is not so deep.

The Torah is the deepest thing in the world.

JOKE: Cab-driver are the real Kabalists.

World War I: Nobody won the war. The whole world lost.

Stinginess comes from thinkng I made the money myself. ForAvrahm, the biggest non-pagan act is to give.

In the '60's, I tried to tell kids, you don't need chemicals to behigh

The highest in the world is when my relationship to G-d does notdepend on what I'm doing.

The lowest person in the world wants to have a Seder.

If I am Jewish, my roots are G-d -- and even if I do somethingwrong, it doesn't come from my roots.

The world the way it is without being Fixed [tikkun ha'olam]brings you down. The way it is fixed -- the Kotel, the greatRebbes -- pulls you up.
I eat soup at a Chinese restaurant, it pulls me down. Fridaynight [eating a traditional Shabbat meal] it brings me up.

If G-d destroys the world, the world will not cease to exist; youwill live in a destroyed world -- it will not make sense.

[eg, as the world would have been for the children of Israelhad they, we, not accepted the revelation at Sinai -- sa,from context]

*[The 10 commandments say] Don't kill -- yelling, ignoring someone-- these are forms of killing. Everyone heard the 10 commandmentsaccording to their own understanding. [Traditional teaching.]

*On Pesach G-d takes kus up so high, and shows us that ourrelationship (connection)...does not depend on what we are doing.

*When you love someone so much, it makes your heart whole and itbreaks your heart.

*If I say, I want to be just like my grandfather, I'm cuttingmyself short.
And today, so many are tyring to make young people just like theirgrandparents.
R. Nachman says, if you daven today like yesterday...

*As much as I want to receive the Torah like my grandfathers, Iwant to receive my Torah -- my portion.

If he doesn't talk [Tora] to his daughers -- then he isn't talkingto his grandchildren either.

The Mea Sheloach told R. Shlomo (as a child): sleep in a talitgadol, and always bentch from a siddur.

(R. Shlomo on one of his first jobs, as a Lubavitch Rabbi atCornell University):
I tried separating men and women -- lost 90% -- tried tellingwomen not to sing -- lost another 90% -- one (student was) left.
(R. Shlomo said to Lubavitch): If someone has a heart attack, yougive them a manicure? This is not the way to bring them back.

Rav Kook was most imfluenced by Reb Nachman and the Ishbitzer.

"In reality I have seen very little hasidus -- I was giving overto the chevre the way I think (hope?) it should be."

"If the Jewish community had supported us [in the late '60's] wecould have saved the entire generation" [from turning to otherpaths]

Fire kids -- [the young people 'enflamed' with a desire forreligious and mystic experience, during the '60's] -- the worldhad no vessels for them.

My Zede (grandfather) was 6' 4" and he had [wore] a streimel allweek -- he was so afraid the non-Jews might think he was a nonJew.

Knowing diminishes the beyond-knowing.

Why are some of us a little off Yiddishkeit -- because what wethough of G-d -- or Yiddishkeit -- we got a little bitdisappointed.

But why did you think [the Rabbi from whom you sought a completeanswer to your question] knew [the whole truth] -- he is alsodoing [only] his best -- he also doesn't know `day from night'.

*"You call it Good, I call it G-d -- it's only a question ofnames."

"I can live in the world and believe there is no G-d -- no-onestops me -- or I can stand by the ocean ..."

There are very high d'vrei Toras, and if I don't receive them, there is evil in the world I can't [blast away with Light]

G-d says...whatever you need, I'll give it to you.

'The shalt not have strange gods' [10 commandments] -- the Kotzker(Rebbe) says -- G-d shall not be a stranger to you.

A lot of people come to Jerusalem, it's very beautiful, butnebbuch, they didn't have the privilege yet, to feel at home.

The Tora is like, 1 + 1 = 2. In the Gemora, it is possible that1+1=2, or 1+1=7. Because it's a G-d orientation.

The problem, we're looking at everything with politics. G-d isnot politics. The holy land is not politics.

(After the Holocaust, the holiness we need to make it is billionsof times higher than before.)

What they need of each other before they get married, they hadenough of; but not what they needed after they got married.

You think on Shuvuos G-d gives us the same Torah 'He' gave us lastyear? (We are given) the Torah we need right now. [Punctuationadded -- sa]
The non-religious reject religion becaue they say of the religious-- you're not giving me what I need now. You're giving me pre-Wargoods.

To know what you need right now is deeper than prophecy.

Moshe Rabbenu is the master of putting G-d into everyone's heart. The Ishbitzer says, Moshe Rabbenu was making a place for every Yid-- how much of Mt. Sinai should (there be?) in every Yid.

On Friday evening, the holy Samzer would shake hands with everyYid.

"We have to fix our relationship to women -- we got by for 2000years."

**"Whenever you meet your soulmate -- don't test each other."
