COMPILER'S PREFACE

This is a working draft of teachings by R. Shlomo on weddings.

It has been been compiled at this stage (11/94) only from inputwedding transcripts. In a few cases other input material has beenadded, but no sytematic search has been made. It should beaugmented with excerpts from non-input transcripts. Note thatinput wedding material remains only a small fraction, maybe 1/3,of hard-copy wedding material. As far as I know, all hard-copywedding material is held by R. Joshua Witt.

I have broken the transcripts into topics, editted out merelypersonal remarks, deleted names, and re-assembled that material bytopic. I have otherwise tried to edit as little as possible.

I would hope that these teachings would serve as a sort ofreference book for those who wish to carry on R. Shlomo'stradition of conducting Jewish weddings as a very seriousspiritual exercise.

I'd suggest making it a how-to-do-it book for a Jewish wedding. That means identifying and sequencing each stage of the ceremony, and excerpting remarks on all 4 levels: halacha, kavanah, midrash, etc.
A digest of halachot and text of the required blessings could beincluded. One might also include at least a bibliography of otherwedding materials.

One would then approach Ben Zion Solomon, to supplement such atext with a cassette of Wedding niggunim for each stage. Andmaybe a 2nd cassette of the instrumental music for thecelebration.

It would be possible to select from this material a much shorterlighter group of short quotations, that would serve for generalreading, a sort of coffee-table book.

This draft is no more than the lastest addition to the work ofmany people, most not identified in typescripts. R. Joshua andEmunah Witt have done the bulk of the presently available input. Alon Teagar led a previous input project, staffed by members ofMoshav Meor Modi'in; all known work from that project is includedhere.

All copy-rights reserved to R. Joshua Witt, 14 HaMishkanot,Mishkanot, Jerusalem; Tel: 972-2-248620 ; and to the Carlebachfamily; unless explicitly assigned by the preceeding.

I bear sole responsibilty for all editorial errors andmisjudgements in preparation of this material. I assert no copyright nor financial interest, and waive any future such assertion.
