RE: Enclosed R. Shlomo material

I enclose a disc with the input of the material you gave me inxerox, plus the xeroxes.
Explanatory etc. comments follow, after two other remarks:

(1) You mentioned that R. Joe Shoenwald has an extensivecollection of tapes, which you suggested I might offer toinventory to him. As I mentioned, I'd be glad to do so. Ienclose 2 memos and a cover letter on that point; after you'veread them, would you pass them on to him.

(2) You mentioned that in cases of poor-quality tape, the furtherdeterioration in making a copy has resulted in an unusable copy. I enclose one very high-quality tape (Sony Metal Select 90; aboutNIS 15 as compared to about NIS 6 for the standard Sony (orbetter, TDK) tapes (and compared to about NIS 3.5 for imitationSony tapes, eg Diplomat, which I've found unreliable).
Will you try to copy one of the poor-quality tapes onto this tape, either on your Sanyo(?) cassette player, or, preferably, on abetter system -- I assume Yakar must have one. Then check to seeif the high-quality tape is worth the extra price in copying lowquality tapes. Copy only at real-time speed, not fast-dub, ofcourse.

You mention a "beautiful niggun" at the start of Side B on tapeG116 (which was taped over an old Rolling Stones tape). YOu alsomention taht that tape was stuck and could not be re-wound.
It would be good to get a copy of that niggun. I think it'simportant to preserve R. Shlomo's unrecorded niggunim, those maybe some of his most beautiful work. I think they should be copiedonto backup tapes, which should be sent (retaining copies) to BenZion Solomon.
So: If you can take G116 to an expert, eg the shop in Geula, andget it safely copied, I'd appreciate a copy.

NOTES ON ENCLOSED INPUT:

I've previously sent you the EinsteinWriter program on disc. Ifyou're printing: the W.EXE is configured for a dot-matric(generic =EPSON-FX) printer; if it's being output on another typeof printer, you'll need the appropriate printer file, and need torun Einstein SETUP to reconfigure. You can get a copy of Einsteinfrom their office on 31 Hillel St., or call me if you havequestions.

I've also enclosed copies of the current edition of TNTVIRUS. They update quarterly, I would advise all users to subscribe; phone/address of Carmel Software in Haifa is given on TNTVIRUSprogram.

I've also enclosed, for backup, copies of other R. Shlomo materialI've input since 9/94; much of which I previously sent you.

The input of your documents is as follows:

=sh94yk8b: The input of your xerox ms. transcript of the"Sephirot" Session from the summer 1994 Seminar.
I found your transcript entirely readable, but in the 2nd halftheir are numerous omissions, as you know. You should find thatmuch of that can be filled in by replaying the copy of the timethat Yakar gave you; if you still can't catch it, you'll have togo back to the original Yakar tape, especially if the copy wasmade on one of the imitation-Sony brands sold in Israel (egDiplomat). In one case, which I noted, it looks as if the copywas a bit shorter than the original, so the end of Side A was notcopied.

=she_at&t: Excerpts from the partial transcript of yourengagement. I excerpted only teachings, and did not inputpersonal material.

(=sh12279a + =sh12279c): These add to but do not complete thetranscript of the 12.27.93 Session. If you will send me copies ofthe Peace2 and Peace3 tapes, I can complete that transcription(unless you have already completed it, in which case just send mexeroxes of your transcription.)

I typed up the inventory of the tapes which Joel Glick left withyou. Titled =invjoel. I had previously given it a slightlydifferent title, which reflected my conclusion that Joel Glickmust still have, or have stored elsewhere, his Chochmat haLevtapes; and that what you have is essentially odds and ends, mostlyfrom other venues. Can you write or phone Joel, and find outwhere his tapes are, and get a listing of them? It could be quitean important collection.

I typed up the excerpts, and what seemed to be close paraphrases, that you made from the JG tapes; those excerpts are =sh-e_jj1(Note I use both a hyphen and then an underline in the docname).

If you now have handwritten transcripts which have not been input,if you send me xeroxes I can input them. My usual turnaround timeper Session should be about 1-3 weeks (1 Session is about 1 week'swork).
I suppose by now G101 has been transcribed. Unless someone elsehas volunteered to input it, you can send it to me. I would notanticipate any obstacles to processing it from the North CarolinaSufi Center, and see no reason why you should put I hold on suchwork until/unless you reach a point that a publisher is preparedto commerically distribute it. You are free to write them for anok; although my own feeling is that this can wait until/unlessthat point is reached.

Anything I send back needs correction, and esp. stripping in ofthe Hebrew, but that shouldn't be more than a few days' work perSession; it could be as little as a few hours, since I flag mostoccurrences of Hebrew script with {HEBREW Proofing against theTape should not take much more than 1 more day. When Leah Golombcorrects the input documents I previously sent you, please send mecopies of that corrected input, so I can update my files. And thesame with this input material.
I insert various editorial notes in my draft input, usually notesto whoever is correcting the input; those should be taken out asappropriate; editor's choice. I've also inserted occasionalfootnotes, but file those off for non-circulation, except in caseswhere I think my remark fits non-controversially into tradition, and might be helpful. Again, I leave it to subsequent editors toimprove upon and/or delete those remarks. Leftover references tomy footnotes should of course also be deleted, I include them onlyfor my own file copy.
