This memo summarizes the status of my R. Shlomo input to date.

I work on a volunteer basis, and waive any assertion of copyrights and of financial interest.

Most of the material I have on disc derives from R. Joshua Witt,to whom, and to the Carlebach Foundation and family, such rightswould be reserved.

I append a few suggestions for archival procedures

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I. MATERIAL ON DISC
    (R. Joshua Witt: C:\BOOK; S. Amdur (HaOn) D:\BOOK6A)

I estimate about 2.5 Mb of R. Shlomo material on my disc (\BOOK6A, also as =BOOK6A.ZIP) , excluding duplicate material (successivedrafts, excerpts derived solely from input material). As noted, most of that derives from the on-disc material of R. Joshua Witt(C:\BOOK), most recently 5/94. I have tried to give R. Joshuacopies of any additional material that I have input.
All documents have been input in EinsteinWriter (English/Hebrew,90K), which runs under DOS, and translates into ASCII viaEinstein's T.EXE.
All Distribution* have EinsteinWriter
Hebrew chip is required to display EinsteinWriter Hebrewcharacters, which overlay European ASCII locations.

II. INVENTORY (=inv0494a + =inv0494b)
I have inventoried all material on my disc, and (essentiallyequivalently) the material on disc of R. Joshua Witt as of 5/94. I have inventoried the hard-copy material in the collection of R.Joshua Witt as of 5/94. I inventoried the collection of HaskelaSasson (Moshav Meor Modi'in) as of 1992. I have not inventoriedany other collections, and am not presently aware of othercollections. I gather that the definitive collection in in R.Shlomo's apartment; I would hope that that would be promptly andthoroughly inventoried.

II: Pre-publication material:
To date I have assembled 3 collections which might be workedinto publishlable booklets:
	(1) excerpted remarks on children (\KIDS1094)
              100 K pp34 116 excerpts (=kida1094 + =kidb1094)
	(2) excerpted remarks on each of the holidays (\YOMTOV94)
              246 K (=sh_1x594 ... =sh_6x594)
	(3) excerpted remarks on Rebbes (\REBBE94)
              100 K (=reba1094 + =rebb1094)
All of the preceeding should be augmented with hitherto non-inputmaterial.

In addition, I have made, as a possible help for R. Joshua Witt,
who has invested considerable time in the preparation of R. Shlomowedding material, a topical collection of input material onweddings:
	(4) (\WED1094) 385 K
Since there are a large number of wedding transcripts (collectionof R. Joshua Witt) that have not been input, this collection canbe considerably augmented.

III. NEED FOR FURTHER INPUT

In my opinion, high priority should be given to inputting as muchR. Shlomo material as possible. At present there is not enoughinput, and maybe not even enough hard-copy (transcripts) toprepare a complete collection of teachings on parshiot nor on the12 months.
Hopefully, many of the better-quality transcripts can efficientlybe scanned to disk; that will probably require a professionalscanner with professional OCR program. Input of scannedtranscripts will still have to be proof-read and corrected; andHebrew typed in.
Given adequate funding, many of the members of Moshav Meor Modi'inand R. Shlomo's chevre might be enlisted as typists, on a pagebasis.

IV. SUGGESTED ARCHIVAL PROCEDURES

I would urge that funding be found, on a priority basis, forthe back-up and safe storage of all R. Shlomo material. Althoughmuch has been xeroxed, a substantial ammount, including somehandwritten transcripts, has not.
I would suggest that duplicate complete archives bemaintained; one in Israel (eg at Yakar), and one in the USA (eg atKehillat Jacob).

Back-up of audio tapes is also necessary. I have not yetattempted to inventory Tapes of R. Shlomo material.

I suggest that all known audio (and video) tapes be (1)inventoried, (2) backed up; (3) that the best set be stored in asafe location as archive while a 2nd set be used as masters toduplicate tapes for transcription

	SUGGESTED INVENTORY SYSTEM

I am at fault for not having used a systematiccoding/numbering system in my inventory; I simply assigned asequential number (with holder-code) to each document Iencountered.
A systematic inventory, presumably by date and topic, willsubsequently be necessary.
l6
	 I suggest the following system:
              {!}yymmdd(n)[tt]-cc
      Where:  {!} is a symbol prefix indicating medium;
		eg: %=audio tape, @=xerox transcript, !@=handwrittentranscript, = = input document, ^=videotape
yymmdd is the date of teaching
	(n) is a literal variable, a... where more than one teachingwas given on a given datae
[tt] is a topic abbreviation, eg ha=hanuka, ww=wedding
cc indicates the collection, eg jw=Collection of R. JoshuaWitt
l1
Others may be able to devise a better system; but the CarlebachFoundation, or anyone whom they designate, should specify astandard system ASAP.
