SUBJECT: File memo on my "Inventory" of R. Shlomo teachings
Re: Archiving R. Shlomo Carlebach Teachings: Listing
REF: See below.
ATTATCH: =shmarch2.asc (5/23/97);  =shm1121R.ASC (5/23/97)
         (Previously sent to DS.)
----------------------------------------------------------------
This memo, for reference, is primarily a listing of what I havedone in listing ("inventory"-ing) R. Shlomo Carlebach materials. Secondarily, it is a rough summary listing of most of what I haveas input. It is not intended for posting.
I do plan to post a brief note requesting additional listings.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Best wishes to all, at Hanuka.

I am updating (viz: supplementing with a new inv* doc; notcorrecting/revising previously-sent docs) my listing ("inventory")of such materials.

So this is a pro forma request for additional listings of R.Shlomo Carlebach teachings, in any medium: input, typescript,manuscript, audio-tape, video-tape.

And once again:
	(a) Compiling such a listing is, I think, a pre-requisite ofresponsible scholarship;
	(b) I'm not well-situated to assemble such a listing;
	(c) I wish somoene better-situated would take on the task.

For a few notes about Archiving, see  =shmarch2.asc (5/23/97); =shm1121R.ASC (5/23/97)

[N.B.: I use the term 'archiving', not in the listproc sense, but in an academic (library) sense: collecting, safe-guarding (ie &backing-up, not locking-up), listing, and making accessible atleast to scholars & students (optimally as an input data-base) aset of all extant teachings in all media of a given teacher. ]

APPENDIX I: Listing of Inventory documents:

N.B.: Size of ZIP'd files are as ZIP'd; about 40% of unpackedsize
I use PKZIP.EXE, 42.166K, 2/1/93
Then I use ZIP2EXE.EXE, 27.319K, 2/1/93, to convert the *.ZIP fileinto a self-extractng *.EXE file.
If anyone sends me a better Zip-er, I'll use it.

REFERENCE: I assume you have the following:

A few notes:

In listing teachings posted on the Website, I try to identify thesource; by checking with my -- partial -- listing of HBG and CNSarticles (Holy Beggars' Gazette, & Connections), to identify thatsource; and sometimes with a PSearch (I'm using Patri-Soft'sPS.EXE) to correlate with anything I have input.
If something posted seems to have been excerpted &/or editted fromthe journal article, or from the input, I note that.
In most, but not all cases, Source is noted on the postedteaching; and DS has sent me further information. I know that onedoesn't want to clutter up posted teachings with source-info; butmaybe you could keep a sort of log of the sources of what'sposted, and sent me a copy.
	I now try to keep whatever title the posted document had; atfirst, when I knew even less about Netscape 2.02 than I now know,I didn't notice the title, and so retitled documents. (That's onereason why noting the byte-count, in listing a document, ishelpful; especially since DOS does not retain the original date ofa document.)

APPENDIX II:  INPUT:

	The following should note most of my input; you can use it tocheck what I've sent you.
	I don't think it lists all my input; I've got to make time totidy up my hard-disc. And I'm still using Quick-DOS 3. Ifanyone has an equivalent of XTREE, for a C=260Mb -- ie, a programthat will list all files on disc with a given name, eg sh*.* --please send it to me. Oh, and also I need an AUTODETECT for myxXT/386/81?Mb.
In Israel, one learns to improvise -- with baling wire -- if onecan find baling wire.

CAVEAT EMPTOR'S:

N.B.: Again: Ben-Zion Solomon, and I think Hatzkele Sasson, bothat Meor Modi'in, have corrected, and maybe tidied up, some of myinput; I don't have copies of their corrected versions; obviouslythose should supplant my input; and should be re-named & noteated.

My =inv* docs are very rough-draft; so they should only go out,(if at all & caveat emptor) to persons who are working in aserious, sober, & patient way assembling these teachings.
(And if you know of anyone else beside yourselves, and the Witts,please tell me.)
Again: Those docs, which run from 1994, include a lot of top-ofthe-head remarks, many of which I would no longer affirm; andagain, I do not revise old docs, I add supplements.
