Natanel Shur is one of the most dedicated and selfless persons workingon R Shlomo material. He is the only person I know have to have translatedR. Shlomo material into French; most of what he has translated has beenpublished in the Jerusalem Post, and very well received. I have never kownhim to ask for funding, nor to fail to spend whatever he can on producingR. Shlomo material with practically no hope of reimbursement, nor to failto offer generous Shabbat hospitality to anyone in need. And the fact is,he really needs funding. (sa, 6/94).

In 1986 I inventoried (doc=TAPES.EIN) a few tapes held by Tzolotana, but Idon't know if she still holds them, nor if they're still audible. I havemade no further atempt to inventory R. Shlomo tapes, so I'll delete thatlisting.
Eliahu Gal-Or is hopeful that he can train his computer to recognize R.Shlomo's voice, and so go from tape to ASCII. It is a difficult challenge, but Gal-Or operates a 486/386 system fed with Napolianin pesta.

DISC INVENTORY

OK: The object is to produce books of R. Shlomo teachings.
The first step (in ancient times, our forbears wrote without computers, butwe have lost that art) is to get R. Shlomo material to disc.

A number of topical books are possible:
WEDDINGS: R. Joshua Witt is working on this
If I were doing it, and if I knew what I were talking about, I'd makeit a how-to-do-it book for a Jewish wedding. That means identifying eachstage of the ceremony, and excerpting remarks on all 4 levels: halacha, kavanah, midrash, etc.
One would then approach Ben Zion Solomon, to supplement such a text with acassette of Wedding niggunim for each stage. And maybe a 2nd cassette ofthe instrumental music for the celebration.

Excerpts on Children: I collected excerpts for a small book, below
HOLIDAYS: That is my sh_1xcp ... sh_6xcp series
However, it's already in need of update from material input
since then. Nor does it list the EW series of Hardcopy
STORIES: Yael M'Sinai is working on this
Booklets of excerpts: I've done a few of those, more could be done
Months: At present, don't have teachings for most months
  Parshiot: Ditto
Teachings: Verbatim teachings. This is maybe the only format thatdoesn't over-simplify R. Shlomo's teaching. A footnoted version, minimallyeditted, would be opitmal; R. Joshua Witt would probably lead it.

I. The complete & definitive collection should be with R. Joshua Witt, asC:\BOOK. Subsequent input by sa sent to him on disc; should be copied intoC:\BOOK\STEVE
Inventoried as dirbook.cod; that inventory not included here.

II. STEVE AMDUR (=sa) 1/94: KIBBUTZ HAON, JORDAN VALLEY, 15170 ISRAEL;TEL: 972-I6-757572, FAX: 554; KIBBUTZ OFFICE: 511.
has a backup of C:\BOOK (MS-DOS 5.00); and maintains a pruned updatedversion of C:\BOOK, currently termed D:\BOOK4, inventoried below.

II. Dup of latest version (5/94) to Hannaleah Bogdan & Eliahu Gal-Or;earlier version (4/94) to Kehillat Jacob, slightly earlier to Ben-ZionSolomon, and to a few trustworthy associates with offices in quieter lands. Dups are sent as PKARC (1986) 'd version, unpacked with PKXARC. Like, multiple redundancy man; I'm not trying to sneak ahead in the race to theend of the rainbow; I've waived any claim to copy-rights.
Usual name is BOOK5.ARC.

WORKNOTES:

4/27/94: I have now an arrangement with Kivun haMa'arav, on Emek Refaim43, 2nd floor, to do OCR Scanning to =IBM-PC disc of R. Shlomo material forno charge, provided that I operate their equipment. That should be severaldays' work.
I estimate my own speed and accuracy at about 80 wpm with 12% error rate;probably about pp4/hr. (where standard page = 60 chars (= 12 'words') perline x 54 lines = 564 words)
June 2, 1994: Their phone is 02-619822
I confirmed the arrangement with Ofer, the owner.
However, the scanner may not be working until at least July.
It's ok if someone else does the work, provided it doesn't bump theirpaying work
HannaLeah or Eliahu may do it.

log

5/18/94: Ran an update Backup of C:\BOOK. Practically nothing added sincemy backup in 1/94. A minor update of ELUL; re-polishings of JonathanDaniels marriage to Susie Meyers (doc=s) and of W-R&Z (polished = RZ).
I'll recopy Elul onto BOOK4, to which I have added my new docs -- until JWupdates, mine is the most up-to-date disc collection.
Gave copy to HannaLeah & to Eliahu, for backup.
EW presently working on AV5 and BARAK, but not yet added to JW disc.

N.B.: TAY- is not an update of TAY; it took in parts of W-R&Z!

JW's system could crash for a variety of reasons -- it's only 20Mb, with aStacker, and not housed in a closed, air-condtioned, office. So it's prudentto have multiple backups.
