TEXT: "After a week of bickering and mud-slinging" [with regardto the election date]

COMMENT: More precisely, dithering and mud-slinging by Peres.

LOGICAL ANALYSIS:
False even-handedness: an assumption, especially when it'stendentiously advantageous, that both sides in a dispute shareequal blame.

TECHNIQUE: Define the position you wish to support as the meanbetween two extremes.

SYMBOLIC ANALYSIS:
Welcomed by the Royal Couch Potatoe, since it puts him in theposition of Solomon with the safety of Aristotle --dispassionately and even-handedly adjudicating between extremistson both sides.
A most attractive self-image, perhaps drawing its power fromthe religious intution of the "straight and narrow path"(Similarly R. Nachman: gesher, tzar meod).
