Talking Point, Efraim Geffen, 12/21/93, interviewing R. DavidHartmann (Hartmann Inst., Jlem) on Chief Rabbi Goren's opinionthat to dismantle Jewish settlements in the biblical land ofIsrael would be to violate halacha; and hence that religioussoldiers ought to refuse orders to do so.

I'll iterate my opinion that Israel Radio English has an agenda ofde-legitimizing religious-based opposition to ceding pieces ofbiblical Israel.

R. Hartmann opposed Ch. R. Goren's opinion, but (despite theefforts of the interviewer to get him to jump through a wellprepared hoop) rejected attempts to label it as incitement torebellion, mutiny, or what-not.

One should fault Israel Radio for not, as they usually do on thisprogram, including two other panelists of opposing viewpoints. Surely it would not have been difficult to find an intelligent, articulate, native-English rabbi to endorse Ch. R. Goren'sposition.

The program would doubtless have been improved thereby; as it was,R. Hartmann, presumably a person of exceptional intelligence andstrong independence of thought, spoke too much and said toolittle.
