CNN News 2/27/94 20:30 on Mid-East TV
Paul Werkman reporting for CBC (??) News from Hebron

"There were four soliders on duty inside, and needless to say whenthe shooting started they ran the other way."

COMMENT: According to previously-broadcast news on Israel Radio(English), there had been 4 soldiers stationed there at the time. 2 were outside and did not hear the shooting. 2 were inside. First reports said they were unable to get inside because of therush of people fleeing; a later report says 2 of them were able toforce their way in.

FURTHER COMMENT: The reporter sounded young, I had not heard himon CNN previously, but I've only started watching it in the lastfew weeks. He sounded filled with righteous indignation, and didnot seem to feel any need to restrain it; various other aspects ofhis report were carelessly anti-Israel ("slapping" [womendemonstrators] "around" ).
