UNBIAS/ or QUOTE OF THE WEEK

TIME 01/17/94: "Playing Hard to Get: 'We are not in a rush. LEtthem sweat'. -- Israeli Prime Minister...Rain, sounding toughjust days before agreeing to resume negotitations on transferringpower in Jericho and the Gaza strip to the Palestinians."

==================================================================
NEWSWEEK 01/17/94

Article bears an uncanny resemblance to the parallel article inthe same-dated issue of TIME. True, both magazines live in thesame universe at the same time, but ....
Anyhow:

(1): The framework agreement that Arafat and Rabin sealed with ahandshake in Washington last September gave the Palestinianslittle more than a promise of Israeli withdrawal from most of Gazaand the Jericho area. [my emph. added]
l2
(a): REACTION: 'Sealed with a handshake' -- that has a nicemanly ring to it. Sounds good to me -- clean-cut & manly. If it's sealed with a handshake, we should honor it.

(b) ANALYSIS: 'little more than' -- an unusuallystraightforward technique. If one gets 'little more than'then, one may infer, one deserves a bit more.
l1

(2) 'Israel continues to toss the PLO little tidbits, like therelease of 101 Arab prisoners'.
l2
ANALYSIS: Ditto, but a bit more blatant; 'toss...tidbits' ishow a boorish gentleman feeds his dog
l3
Admittedly, someone in Rabin's circle -- if there'sanyone there besides Rabin -- keeps manifesting a weirdfetish for numbers: '100 + 1' prisoners freed; and thatnonsense with the suspiciously neat numbers of Hamasdeportees. In the good old days, folks were imprisoned,deported, and released for their crimes, not becausesome old turkey wanted a nice round number.
l4
Correction: the Romans killed in nice roundnumbers, and so did the Nazis; maybe it's a facisttrait.
