R. Lev Kelman (Egalitarian/Reform?) on V'yikra. Speaking ofAvraham's intercession on behalf of S'dom, R. Kelman raises thequestion "How do we react to the suffering of the Other", thestranger in our midst.
The implication is that we should care more for the sufferings ofthe Palestinian people; but The implicit analogy with S'dom is notbelaboured.

COMMENT:
Israel radio engages 1 rabbi a year for commentary on the Torahportion. 2 years ago it was R. Macy Foreman (modern orthodox);his commentaries, as I recall were non-political (in contrast, eg,to those of R. Shlomo Riskin in The Jerusalem Post). Last yearthe commentator was R. ben Hollander (Conservative), who, as Ihave argued in previous memos, seemed to take every opportunity toconstruct a chain of reasoning, however long or intricate, showingthat the Torah culminates in the teachings of Shimon Peres.
