My French isn't good enough to do critiques; this memo is simplyto bring this article to your attention.

I'd guess that one would find that the liberal French media viewthe Israel--PLO struggle through a romanticized image of the anticolonial struggle of the French colonies of north Africa. Theterm "colons" is used for 'settlers'; Amos Oz' epithet for Gaza as"the Soweto of Israel" is quoted; the professional internationalterrorists of the PLO are referred to as "les 'anciens'". Jerichois, I think, sketched as a tropical ethnic paradise; Israelioccupation as a grim overlay.

I'm coming back and around to the notion that media bias is onlysecondarily a matter of distortion of facts; that the primarytrick is to fashion an image, anchored in the generational hisotyrand socio-economic biases and pretentions of one's readership, which advances a pre-selected political agenda.
