=pvinvwa INVENTORY OF ZENITH TAPES IN COLLECTION OF WALIA HOFSTADLER Held in Walia Hofstadler's Home in Ligornetto, Switzerland which is now the home of her daugher, Devi Furlan, and her husband, Igor Digereedoo , Devi Furlan, Via E. Bernasconi 2C, LIgnornetto (Ticino) Switzerland Tel: 041---91--630-9030 devi@ticino.com oliphonerecord@hotmail.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- Inventoried, 'sa'='Steve Amdur, sa73122@yahoo.com , www.geocities.com/sa73122a , Campra, CH-6718 Olivone , (Moshav) Mevo Modi'in , 73122 Israel' Inventoried sa , 29 March '05 --------------------------------------------------------------- Provenance: These are all Master Tapes, so on audio input they will be coded a (Side A) and b (Side B) They are almost all on Maxwell Type II 90-minute tapes They would have been used many times for making Customer Copies, on a Fast-Dub machine, 6 minutes to copy a 45-minute side. Maybe the tape heads were cleaned often enough, maybe not. At the close of Camp they were entrusted to Walia, then Hofstadler, then Switzerland SO head, and taken to her home, I think in Lignornetto. At some point around the mid-90s ZR remarked to me that he was taking Walia's tapes to Suresnes. He evidently took most of Walia's collection to Suresnes. These remained behind -- 1989, 1990, 1991, and some of 1994. Some were evidently given away as spare copies of tapes, rather than being preserved as Master's. All teachers except PVK would have been given a complete set of the tapes of their lectures, although those were almost certainly Fastdub copies, and may have been made on El Cheapo tapes, although it is likely that they were made on namebrand tapes, most likely TDK Type I. Walia apparently left her tape collection in Lignoretto when sho moved to smaller lodgings. At about the end of Feb '05 these tapes were put out of the house and under a room on the outdoor courtyard of the house, with the air damp from rain. The cartons had become damp, and a bit of damp and dreck on the outside of some of the boxes that held the tapes. The plastic boxes that held the tapes themselves seemed ok, and presumably the tapes were undamaged. A few tapes were in their plastic boxes not in larger boxes. I took the cartons back inside, then inventoried and repacked the boxes of tape boxes, and dragged them into the back room of the house, on the deuxieme etage, the lower of the 2 floors in which Devi and Igor live. I hope they will stay indoors. I have said that if they're in the way they can be driven to the Container in which I am working and living, I should only pay SF 5000 in back rent & cappucino bills to the Vanzetti's. The Container is the one built in 1999 for the construction crew that rebuilt Pont des Oiseuax, it sits behind Honest George's Doggie Diner Restorante, but is Vanzetti turf. So if the tapes are moved to this Container, I hope that if/when I leave they will remain here, but maybe the Vanzetti's will move them into other storage. I inventoried all this material in 4 hours, having that morning breakfasted at leisure at the Arcobelo Hotel in upper Campra (run by Ludmilla's parents, who are very fine people) , and then made my way down through Lugano, pausing to contemplate the forsythia in blossom, and on to Mendriso and thence to Ligornetto, where I dined at leisure on some excellent pasta prepared by the lady of the house. So what that means is that in making this inventory I was rushed, and so failed to note all the relevant data. In particular, for most tapes I failed to note the day and month on which the lectures were given, and failed to correlate that with the Camp Week, as noted in the Camp Brochure for that year. You can see that with the 4 boxes of tapes that I took with me. On this inventory I have added the Notes made by the Sound Engineer on the tape boxes (Tape Boxes W10P90, W3P90, W5P90 ) --------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY OF PVK MATERIAL IN THE WALIA COLLECTION: First of all, I concern myself only with PVK material. But the Walia Collection does include substantial batches of material from other staff, especially Nigel and Munir. Three is also substantial material of Atum/Taj. We may have no lack of Atum tapes, at least from his later period -- his early period Abode tapes might be quite fine, before he went psychologic -- but tapes of TIK might be rather special. There are also a good number of Feizy tapes, which may be of particular importance if she had now dropped out. The present Walia collection is far from being a definitive collection, though I hope the definitive Zenith collection is preserved by ZR in Suresnes. The Walia Collection has been apparently raided, many weeks are imcomplete. We seem here to have a complete 1990 PVK, and maybe a complete 1991, a substantial 1989, and a small section of 1994. No other years are present here. (W10P90 + W3P90 apparently comprise the complete PVK Week 1 (I would guess that it was Week 1, I have not checked the Soun dDesk notebook, nor the Catalog= W5P90 is the first half only of a PVK Week, apparently Week 3 For 1991 we seem to have the complete PVK Tapes. I did not take those with me, I left them in Ligornetto in Carton Walia 1. These are in boxes W14--W19 (with Munir tapes included in in W18 and W19, There are also PVK tapes in Fox W22 (Tape EM12), and in Box W24 (Tape EM6) In Carton Walia 2 we hae Box W28P94, PVK Tapes 1-8 1994: W30P94 PVK Tapes 17-23, 19--23 July '94. PVK Tapes 32-34 are noted in Box W31P94, Week 3; but are missing. It seems then that most of PVK 1994 is not in this collection. As I say, I did transcribe PVK 1994 English, and then gave my set of tapes, which were most likely nameband Type I, to Yankele Shames, who moved to Bet Meir in Israel, and hopefully still has them. In Box W35P89 , 13-15 July '89, we have English/German 6 tapes. PVK Evening tapes noted but apparently missing. In Box W36P89 , 31 July '89--2 Aug '89, We have PVK Tapes F1--F10. I assume F stands for French, that would be a French/English week. PVK gave German-only weeks, but never that I recall a French-only week, there are simply not enough Frenchpersons. Nor do I recall an English-only week at Zenith. In Box W3789, 25--27 July, there are 6 PVK tapes, including 4 from a Leaders' Seminar held during the Camp. I have borrowed this box and will note it in detail below. W38P89, PVK Tapes 17--25, 20--25 July '89 W39P89 seems to be a full week, 5--13 July '89, but I left it in Ligornetto so cannot check in detail. W40P89 Is Tapes F11--F20, 3--5 Aug '89. So that follows Box W36P89, and seems to give us the full PVK French Week. W41P89 Is PVK Tapes 7--16, 17--19 July '89 So that seems to follow W35P89, and seems to give us the full English/German PVK 1989 Week, but I can't account for 16 July '89. So at some point this inventory needs to be redone, including all the info. That would also include the descriptions of what's on each tape, as noted in the accompanying binders of nozes from the Sound Desk. On each box of tapes I put a little sticker with the the W-number I had assigned to that box of tapes -- I did not categorize those boxes by week/teacher before I numbered them, I simply numbered them sequentially as I took them out of the damp old cartons and put them in the less-damp new cartons. This inventory, and all inventories, should go into Spreadsheet form, presumably Microsoft Excel -- they tell me that Lotus 1-2-3 is no longer much in use. Also, the sound desk notes should be input -- these are the table of contents to each of the tapes. They also note the music that PVK chose to evoke the attunement appropriate to each meditation. In the good old days that music, which PVK often stated was an integral part of the meditation, was included on the tape, but then somebody starting worrying about being sued for copyright infringement, and so, with PVKs ok, it was no longer included -- quite an unnecessary worry, since most of the music was from Sacred Spirit at the Abode, which strictly speaking would have been owned by the SO with PVK as its head, and most of the best of the rest was long out-of-print, and maybe some also public domain. The numbering system I use is: WaTyy -- Where W is the fixed prefix for the Walia Lignornetto collection, a is the squential number of that box of tapes, numbering the entire W collection in a single sequence; T is the initial of the teacher (with T/U/V when a box holds a variety of teachers, including E for Evening and X for Hodge-Podge) and yy is the year of the Zenith Camp -- 89 , 90 , 91 , or 94 in this Collection. A put a little sticker on each box of tapes, with the number of that box of tapes, and a brief scrawled description of the tapes contained therein. Abbreviations: W -- Walia Collection P -- PVK Z -- ZIK T -- Taj Inayat Khan M -- Munir Voss N -- Nigel Hamilton Az -- Aziza Scott EM -- Evening Mediation (used by sound-desk) E --- Evening Meditation (used in my Tape-box numbers) L -- Used by sound-desk.
