The New Iberia Karate Institute is the oldest and only traditional Karate School in this city or region.  It was established 20 years ago and has as its chief instructor Mr. Scott Decuir, a local attorney and Yon Dan (4th dan black belt) with the Japan Karate Association.  Mr. Decuir, a graduate of L.S.U. (1983) and Tulane Law School (1986), has over 33 years of karate experience and has competed, coached and judged competitions on a local, state and national level.  Mr. Decuir is a graduate of the prestigious International Shotokan Karate Federation instructor training program and is a certified instructor, judge and examiner for the ISKF and the JKA.
The style of karate that we train is
Shotokan Karate, a Japanese style that is characterized by strong focus (a moment of concentrated energy) made possible by full hip motions and a total committment of the body to the technique.
