Three Gorges Project

Three Gorges Project is now carrying out by the Chinese Government. Flooding of the Chang Jiang is disastrous. To solve the problem, the government has carried out a large-scale multi-purpose water scheme. This Three Gorges Project started in 1993 and is to be completed in 2009.

The project included a dam to be built at Sandouping in Hubei. This can regulate the flow of the Chang Jiang, thus controlling floods. Besides, the high dam can generate a large amount of hypro-electricity. The reservoir behind the dam can also help provide irrigation water. There are also locks installed for effcient navigation.
