My dad passed away when I was 23.  It was sudden and unexpected and I never got to say "Goodbye, I love you."
I never had a special relationship with my dad, we always seemed so distant from each other. No bedtime stories, no memories of days in the park, not much hugging, no 'I love yous'. All the things that should have been there, just wasn't for some reason. My dad worked hard and long hours and was hardly ever home. When he was home he was either tired or busy or occasionally watching his favorite baseball team  the New York Yankees.

But one day he brought home a beat up used piano. I dont recall how old I was, but I do recall it was a long ways to touching the floor once I sat down at the bench. Anyhow, he never played one before, but seemed to have an ear for music. It became his 'stress reliever'. Whenever things were heavy on his mind, dad would retreat to the basement to be alone and play around with it. No one else could touch it, it was his and his alone. But then no one really had an interest in it except me anyhow.

One day, out of the blue, dad called me down to the basement. He said " Michelle would you like to learn a song?"
The music that is on this page  is what he taught me. Together we made a good team and I never laughed so hard or felt so close to my dad as I did then. Every once in a while he would call me down to play it with him, and I never forgot my part. Those times, playing the piano with my dad, were the most precious moments I had with him. I cherish those memories more than I can truly express. I miss him dearly.
I once saw a movie called "BIG"  with Tom Hanks in which  this tune was playing during the toy department scene. Of course I cried my eyes out watching the scene, remembering my times with dad..longing for those days once again.....
Remember to hug your loved ones tonight and remember,
it only takes a moment in which your whole world can change.
Don't go through life thinking " If only...."
Tell them NOW how much you love them.
