Robyn and I are currently working on our genealogy research. Robyn is handling the directly lineage thru our parents Donald Livingstone and Mary Radish while I'm handling the extended family and helping Robyn. We do have a family tree website but we are currently checking out other sites to see if there is a better one for easy access for our relatives and easy to view family trees.
Between the work Robyn and I have both done, we have over 1200 names for our family tree including the extended family and living relatives with more to be added. Robyn is working on obtaining a copy of our paternal great grandfathers death certificate with a film from the LDS library. We know he was born in Canada and the date and most likely the location, however I've had a contact in Canada check the birth registration records online and our great grandfather isn't listed for some reason. His father was born in Scotland. We're hoping the death certificate we're looking for will have his father's name and additional information.
We're hitting roadblocks. We want to make the connection between our great-great grandfather and Scotland. As some people know there are two families of Livingston's in Scotland. One is the Clan Livingston from the Highlands of Scotland which claim David Livingston, the missionary as one of the descendants. The other is the Livingstons from Midlothian, around the Edinburgh. The two families are not blood related. However we've been told by one of our relatives that we're related to David Livingston but we're from Edinburgh, which shouldnt be possible. Once we make the connection to either family then we should be able to go back to the 16th century with out family tree
For mom's family I'm waiting on a copy of our great grandfathers and great grandmothers death certificates. Both were born in Russia. We have a little more info on our great grandfather, but we need additional info to make a better connection. One of the roadblocks here is obtaining a copy of a Canadian immigration record and any information from Russia (or the former republics) without paying some money.
As some know researching genealogy can be time consuming and frustrating (with the roadblocks) but fun and interesting at the same time. Some do simple direct lineage trees. Others do extended trees. While others really outdo themselves and put together heritage books that give family history, photos, family trees and much much more and then have it published for family members. They also sometimes go to their families home place or home lands to gather information or see them for their heritage
please come up and visit us. we're going to try and keep this blog updated with any new information we gather
