The Centerpiece of the Non Smoking Table was conceived and planned before the table itself. It is made of eighty-eight health warnings from Canadian cigarette packs. These warnings, in both French and English versions, are printed 'white on black' and 'black on white'. I used these warnings or 'blocks' in sets of 4 and 8, mounting them around a central square of either gold or silver foil, or a triangular pattern of both gold and silver. The block sets or 'tiles' were then arranged to create an overall master pattern of gold and silver, underlying the warnings. As I had no fixed idea as to how I was going to present this piece, the idea of using it as the Centerpiece in the Non Smoking Table seemed ideal.
