Today, when I was waiting for the lift near the cafeteria after lunch, I saw these scenes which disturbed me much.
Outside every floor door, there would be a security standing. The job of this guy is to check for display ID cards of the employees who pass by. As a rule, every employee is supposed to carry his display ID card all the time he is incide the company premises. The ID card contains his photo, name and employee number for sure and may be few other fields depending on the company.
The security needs to see that the employees are displaying it properly in a clearly visible fashion and if not, he has to remind them to do that. All day long, his job is just to ensure that the employees adhere to the rules.
Today, when I was standing near the lift, there were a few others who were waiting for the lift as well. Two among them, didn't have badges. The security asked the first guy politely "Sir, please display your ID card". The guy had his display card in his pocket. With a touch of disgust he took out the ID card from his pocket. He moved closer to the security, showed him his ID card and stared at him so rudely that it seemed like a warning never to ask him his ID card again. His eyes seemed to say "Here is the damn bloody ID card. If you ask me to display this again ever, Ill kick your a$$".
This poor fellow had no choice to walk away. He then approached the other guy without ID card. I can understand his thoughts at the moment. He would have been so irritated and disheatened yet she cannot show that on his face. I sincearly hoped the next guy to show a decent behaviour at this point.
The reaction to the request of this security from the second guy was "Yaar, I forgot my ID card at my desk. If you want, Ill show that to you when I come the next time". He then poked fun at the guy with such an mordacious laugh I can never forget. That smile still echoes in my conscience.
I was wondering how people can be so rude. What made him rude? What upperhand does the employee have over the security? That he is paid more or is it the cognition that the security can't do anything against him?
The employee is more educted and in a higher position. Does that mean that the employee should be more cultured than the security? Why don't he understand that the security is just doing his job and not anything he likes to do. Going behind anyone without badges is not something he would do happily, but something which helps him earn his bread and butter.
I have tried convincing a few of my collegues who were doing the same thing, shouting at security. But seems the count of guys who does this is too huge. When are these educated guys learn to be polite? When are they going to understand others pain and difficulty. When are they going to be nice with their fellow beings. When are they going to understand that being educated is not a license to he arrogant? When are they going to grow? When are they going to mature? When are they ...
