Sorry if this entry sucks...
... but my boxers are wet and I'm wearing waterproof pants. You do the math.
4/12/Thurs
I came back to the hiker hostel after 3 days of backpacking. I've pretty much had an amazing time so far, and you have to figure the trip is just warming up. Back to the intro real quick... I came back here and wanted to get in the shower, but I was thinking that I didn't really have any clean clothes. I settled on my smartwool long underwear top because wool just plain doesn't hold odors, and my rain pants because I never really did sweat in them, and I just put on some old socks. I had two pairs of wicking underwear though (REI and ExOfficio... they're about as good as each other) and BOTH WERE SMELLY. So, I washed a presumably less-dirty pair in the shower and tried to squeeze and air it dry, but nothing dries that quickly. There is a drier here, if you're wondering, but shh -- you're spoiling the story. So, the point is, I had to wear wet underwear under waterproof pants, but, that did not detract from my amazing mexican dinner.
We went out to Delonega, GA to a mexican restaurant, and I ate so much food... it was me, Gypsy, Xenon, and some guy who doesn't have a trail name yet so I didn't remember his name. But he's cool. We had an awesome time. Gypsy is the coolest 50-yr old woman I know... "there's no lady-like way to eat a hot dog." She's an unemployed nuclear engineer.
I got my first hitch today. Some nice lady took me a mile and a half into town, after I already walked half a mile in. The way back I got passed up about 4 times in a row so I just gave up -- I was almost there anyway, and it was 2 miles all uphill along the mountain road. I only had 5 miles on the trail today, so I wasn't too broken up about it.
So yeah, the mexican restaurant... first time in 3 days I've been full. No joke. For 3 days, I have been hungry, like hungry enough you want to sit down and eat a meal, within 1 hour of eating. People are talking about 4000 to 5000 calories a day... I can only account for 2000. But beer, chips, 3 enchiladas, and one of Gypsy's fajita steaks later, I gained 5 lbs! But more on that later!
