The other End of Cavenagh Bridge - part two - The Fullerton spot
Hi everyone. Din here, and still feeling great and jubilant in this sacred month of Ramadhan, with friends, with Muslim brothers from different parts of Singapore when performing congregation night prayers in different mosqes, with family... and also with my beloved woman of my life, the cat, Miss Ti. Oh yes...yesterday I derived a nickname for her after we passed by a beverage outlet in Jurong Point. Being sometimes bubbly... I wil call her.. Bubble Ti. Hehhehee It seem that you all had geared up for our next journey through time?? And for those are new and had no idea what I am talking about, do refer to my past blogs about my journey through time on the development of places around the Fullerton Building in Singapore, the building or I should say the monument which always captured my beloved Ti's heart at our favourite night spot at Boat Quay. For my foreign friends, Boat Quay and Espalanade are a must place to visit if you plan to travel to Singapore. It is the place where the history of Singapore begins. As for my loyal and tenacious friends, we are still now in the year 1870, when the Cavenagh Bridge was recently open for public use. Some of you might ask, the Fullerton Building is nowhere to be found, where is it?? Remember in my past blogs, Fullerton building will be built about less than 60 years from now. And what is the building right at the spot where Fullerton Building suppose to be, now? Moving further ahead, 35 years from now.....to 1905! ![]() Now that is the General Post Office. U are looking at the front view of it. Notice there are horse carriages around some kind of a fountain ? That is Tan Kim Seng fountain, named after a philantropist Malccan born Chinese, whom donated a sum of $13000 towards building Singapore's first public waterworks to ensure a better supply of fresh water to the town. The Tan Kim Seng fountain was erected by the Municipal Commisionaers to commemorate Tan's donation. Previously it was locate in Fullerton Square and later, 20 years from now it will be move to Esplanade.
![]() And now u are looking at the side view of it, with the Cavenagh Bridge in sight.
Let's move on to one year from now, 1906.
Oh! I should remind you, during our journey, you are not allow to smoke, please be considerate to other trvellers whom are non-smokers. None of you smoke?? I don't smoke either...(Ti's stern warning, if I ever smoke again, she would say good-bye
).... But I smell smoke.....and if there's smoke, there's fire...!! SOMETHING IS BURNING!!!Oh God! The FLINT BUILDING is on fire!!! FIRE! FIRE!!
By next dawn, FLINT BUILDING is totally destroyed, and had to be demolished. Nothing is repairable....
... Anybody hurts ? Thank God, all of you are safe. That building is destined to be burnt somehow. We can't change history....do we ?? ![]() So what now? What will be build to replace the Flint Building spot?? Be with me again ...in my next journey....soon..

prayer for the day
" O Merciful Lord, help us live in harmony with each other. Grant us
forbearance that we may see the way. Deliver us from the darkness (of hate)
and show us the light. Elevate our state and guide us on Your Way. "
