Surfing online to find out more about Kingaroy, the peanut capital of Australia. Will be spending a day there to celebrate Easter with friends.
Meanwhile, I'm elated to know that our site manager is throwing a party on Sunday evening... It's gonna be a Barbecue! I can't wait... I've been dreaming of one since forever... It's been too long.
Today, I learnt a new word "Hoon"... It's what they label the Mat Rempit over here in Australia. The Aussies are seriously tracking down the Hoons in the suburbs. The biggest "heist" was when they blocked the hoons with their cars until the police came.
Saw that on tonight's news...
They other thing on the news today was about banks and supermarkets. The media highlighted that Australians are paying one of the highest rates in the world for keeping their money in the bank - exactly my opinion after opening my bank account the other day. Withdraw from an ATM of the same bank but a different branch from where you opened your a/c, and that transaction will rob me of AUD 2. A withdrawal from a different bank will take an additional AUD 1.50 from me.
As for the supermarkets, the Aussies want unit pricing to be implemented, because a study shows that bigger isn't always cheaper where Pedigree and Kelloggs (to quote the examples they quoted) are concerned.
I'm proud of Malaysia... Our Mat Rempits are besides the point... I mean, the banking and shopping bit. We've got cheap
and consumer-friendly banking, plus our supermarkets like Carrefour already practice unit pricing...
Anyway, just to add another point. Today, my friend who is more conversant in Malay tried to activate his ATM card via the telephone conversation with customer service. He needed my help in deciphering the Aussie slang. You see, in Malaysia, our customer service officers might just be able to speak a few languages.
