The Rangers on Friday made a splash in the news with the acquistion of the Reds center fielder Josh Hamilton this weekend when the Rangers and the Reds made a deal that included Edison Volquez and Danny Herrera going to the Reds in exchange for Josh Hamilton. The Rangers going into this offseason where not only looking for a big bat for the middle of the lineup but also a center fielder and it looks like they filled this void this weekend with this acquistion. Hamilton batted .296 last year for the reds with 19 homeruns and 47 RBI's in just 298 at bats last year. He does come with some concerns though the 26 year old Hamilton missed 3 seasons due to drug and alcohol related problems but the Rangers see no need to worry and feel that he is ready to step up and be a team player for this team and when asked he said quote, "I look forward to growing with this team".
This is not the only big news in the Texas Rangers organization the latest news is that the Rangers are set to give Eddie Guardado a deal to come play for them. Guardado who went through some injury troubles last year. He came back from tommy john surgery and had a 7.74 era for the Reds but down the stretch was outstanding. The Rangers feel like he would be an upgrade to their bullpen and when asked about what he is trying to do JD said and I quote, "We are going to stockpile the bullpen with as many arms as we can there will be no room for error during spring training because you will have to fight for your spot in the bullpen". The Rangers were one of the best bullpens in the majors last year and Jon Daniels is wanting to keep it that way. So what do you think of this trade and the possible acquistion of Eddie Guardado? Well stay tuned to this blog for the latest and greatest news in the Rangers world.
By the way, Congrats to the Dallas Cowboys for winning out on home field throughout the playoffs....GOOD LUCK BOYS.
