We arrived in Hoi An at 1PM and our bus stopped at the Green Hotel we were skeptical when the hotel staff got on the bus and offered rooms with free cocktails and much more. What a scam! This hotel was not close to the center of town and there was nothing around but many of the passengers were interested in the deal. Bryan and I stayed on the bus and got off at the last stop, the intended stop. A whole line of scooters were following the bus until the last stop, "You stay in my hotel, very good, very zeep!" It was impossible to find a car in this town, so we had to cary all of our stuff to the hotel which was about three blocks away. We checked into our room which is very quaint and close to everything. We have a nice balcony and the place has a swimming pool too, which is very nice when you are shvitzing for 12 hours. It took a little while for the room to cool off but it finally did in the evening.
Hoi An is known for the large number of tailors in such a small town, there are over 200! Our first stop was Mr. Xe, he was recommended in the guide book. He really liked Bryan, measuring and giving him little taps here and there. Bryan even had to go to a second place with him to get measured. Mr. Xe measured me too but I didn't get nearly as much attention, his assistant was a very tiny girl and she took my second measurements. While she was measuring me, she said, " I have never seen a bum like this, tiny waist and big bum." Mr. Xe said very hard to make clothes for you but we do it."
We walked around town and did more shopping, more art for the walls. Now it was time to get back to the hotel and clean up for dinner. We headed out and encountered madness, it was like New Year's here. When we arrived at the Mango Rooms restaurant we found out that it was the celebration of the full moon. There is a crazy party here every month. Yes, we have been eating our way through Southeast Asia and tonight's dinner was fantastic. The chef/owner had lived in the US, Mexico and Europe for years so there was a lot of fusion style food, and we were able to have salad for the second time on our trip since the water was safe. The walk home was challenging, but we made it back and looked at suitcases on the way.
