ABC motos around Hanoi- August 3

This moring Bryan was all set to go to Ha Long Bay but since a typhoon was coming the trip was cancelled. Since I was not really interested in being on a boat for 8 hours my plan was to check out more things in Hanoi. In the end Bryan did find another boat trip to go on. I started the day by taking a moto taxi to the Women's Museum, four floors dedicated to the accomplishments of Vietnamese women. Some of the English translations were rather amusing, when they were failed... this was supposed to be jailed. As an ESOL teacher I could really understand how many of these errors happened. My next stop was Jade Mountain Temple which is in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake in the center of the city, no there were no boats involved, there is a nice little bridge that you can walk across. I decided to check out the area near the West Lake and have lunch over there, not much was happening but my picture cards came in handy since the menu was in Vietnamese and no one spoke a word of English. I headed back to the center of town, I had to keep bargaining and price checking all day before getting on a moto taxi. They are famous for changing the price here and not giving the correct amount of change, so I always wrote out my next stop and the price that was agreed upon. At 3:30 I arrived at The Memorial House, a traditional Chinese style house in the old quarter. The place was nice but it was full of chackas that were for sale. The next stop was the Bach Ma Temple, the oldest temple in Hanoi. The main attraction here is a white horse. The legend says that Emperor Ly Thai To prayed at this temple for assistance in building the city walls because they continiously collapsed. His prayers were answered when a white horse appeared out of the temple and guided him to the site where he eventually built his walls. Before heading back to the hotel to meet Bryan I stopped at the Dong Xuan Market, a three story building filled with clothes, shoes, purses, belts and anything else that you may want. I thought it was funny that everything here is made in China. Bryan came back from the Perfume Pagoda tour and we headed to dinner at 69 Bar Restaurant where we had another scrumptious meal.
