I am a student at Sacrament Community College. I moved to California about 10 years ago. Prior to that time, I lived in Illinois. Although I have grown to like it here in Sacramento, its still doesn't feel like home to me. I miss many things about Illinois. One of the things that I miss most are the fireflies. Summer just doesn't seem like summer without those fun filled evenings of sitting out on the porch watching those little lighted wonders blink about. Many native Californians think that fireflies exist only in on the pages of the fairytale Peter Pan . If they only knew what they were missing! From what I've observed of the "typical" mentality and lifestyle of a Californian, the subtle presence of a firefly would probably be unoticed anyway. Oh well, their loss I suppose. Another thing that I miss about Illinois is the weather. I liked the fact that there were clearly 4 seasons, each one presented by mother nature in a uniquely delightful way. Summer was presented by fireflies, Spring by rain, Fall by beatifully shaded foliage, and Winter by snow and icicles. Unlike that neat segregation of seasons, Sacramento has only 2. Fall and Summer. Their introductions are often very vague and unoticeable. Fall, is usually characterized by a sudden week-long spell of pouring down rain, and Summer is usually presented by the 100 degree weather that you wake up to the morning after the rainstorms end..having no introduction..its just there!
More or less this site is a tribute to those things that I loved about Illinois andeven more so now that I moved to Sacramento.
