Science
The second grade science program incorporates readings and hands- on activities in three basic areas of science:
       Life Science
           Physical Science
                  Earth Science

We start the school year with topics from the Life Sciences that second graders can relate to, themselves.  The unit, What Makes Me Sick, dicusses how germs cause illnesses, how illnesses are spread, and most importantly, how to stay healthy.
From there we move onto the unit, Interaction of Living Things.  This unit investigates the needs of all living things, both plants and animals, and their adaptations to habitats.  The effects of living things and natural forces on environments are also discussed.
The unit called Energy and Motion explores the characteristics of light and how objects and light interact. In one fun activity, we classify objects as opaque, transparent and translecent.
Other discoveries in the world of science your children will be  investigating include, dinosaurs and  our changing earth and the physical science topic of changing matter (solids, liquids and gases).
