We have a variety of malas string according to various buddhist traditions ie Mahayana, Tibetan and Japanese buddhist sects.   The material used are seeds ( bodhi, lotus etc ), quartz and mineral (citrine, amethyst, malachite etc ), wood ( sandal, aloes, ebony etc ), amber, coral, etc.

The malas are also made to order that means the material and style of stringing can be specified.
