Swears, usually for emphasis. Trades insults with his colleagues, almost always in good humor. Origin: Oak Cliff, suburb of Dallas, Texas, USA, country in the 3rd planet of the Sol system, dimension x11y25z99d202 (near Prime Earth), in the year AD 1983. Backstory: Grey idolized his older brother Darian, a promising genius in the field of cybernetics. His appreciation for his sibling only grew in 1993, when they and their mother were in a car crash. His mother and Darian were fine, but Grey's seatbelt tore free of its housing. He was thrown through the windshield. Miraculously, he escaped unharmed - except his eyes, which had been damaged beyond repair by glass shards. Darian worked hard, and finally made a pair of cyber- netic replacement eyes for Grey. In gratitude, Grey agreed to be a test subject for his brother's cyberware designs. Darian was approached by a group of men claiming to work for the government's military research division. Since they showed the appropriate ID and legitimate paperwork, Darian agreed to work with them. Darian received access to high-grade materials and equipment, and was paid well for his cybernetic innovations. Grey, too, gained much from the group collaboration - all of his cybersystems except his eyes were made and implanted by Darian at the military research lab. All was well with Grey's world, until March of the year 1999. Grey was experimenting with his new piece of cyberware - a neural-interface datajack - and was cruising the military research group's mainframe, when he discovered a secret: the so-called 'govern- ment agency' was actually a front for an underground terrorist organization. Grey was incensed by this, but decided to bide his time. About 5 months after his discovery, Grey felt he had waited long enough. He loaded himself for bear, drove down to the lab, and put every living creature in the building to death with his newest 'upgrade', a smartgun jack. He left the building in secret, after spreading a highly-destructive virus across the entire terrorist computer network. His conscience never once raised a single complaint during the whole ordeal. Darian was guilt-struck when Grey told him the truth about his 'benefactors', but Grey comforted him. Grey managed to convince Darian to submit his simpler, more medically-applicable innovations to the FDA, who received them well but decided to wait a few years while they performed extensive safety tests. In the meantime, Darian found work at a medical school's research department. Grey found his calling in Internet security by day, and hacking by night as the infamous "SilentGrey". One day, while roaming the Wired, he stumbled on an abandoned computer system. Grey, being a hacker and thus always open for the next challenge, dove right in. He discovered too late that it was the data storage and processing supercomputer for NASA's ill- fated and top-secret Extradimensional Research Division. After copying the entire contents of the storage comp into his wetware, he accidentally created and executed a program with said data on his datadeck. A power surge resulted, and a rogue Nexus Gate opened, drawing him and all his equipment in. He landed on the holographic projector in the meeting room of the Nexus Station, during a meeting of the NDF's Elite Officers (Xel, Ryu, Dracos, and Vincent). They were, surprisingly, not unused to this kind of thing happening, and brought him into the Nexus Defense Force. In the words of Xelloss, "If he managed to get here despite such a relatively low technology level, he's probably meant to be here. Besides, DYNA was lonely." He's currently working as a secondary system admin on the NDF network. He is often called into action on long infiltration jobs where the agent needs to be able to blend into the crowd - he is, by far, the most "normal-looking" of the entire NDF. His hacking skills also make him a valued information agent. Notable Accomplishments: -Hijacking a Super-class Star Destroyer out of action, intact -Being the first and only NDF officer to show conclusively that yes, one can counteract an Ultima spell with a fire spell and a few thermal detonators -Acing in every mech combat simulator -Being the first to divert an Artificial Sentience's 'attention' Cybernetics: All of Grey's cybernetic systems are powered by a combination of his body heat and digested nutrients. He eats more starches and sugars than normal to help keep his electrolyte count high. -Sub-dermal cyberweave Prevents normal cutting or piercing weapons from penetrating farther than the lowest skin layer. Does not protect against bludgeons, though. -Myoskeletal cyberweave Strengthens muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and prevents broken bones from seperating. Eliminates the need for the painful process of setting broken bones. -Dermal hardweave Blunts or deflects energy weapon discharges, up to and including light infantry PPCs. Also prevents all effects of EMPs; if the pulse is anthing less than a direct blast from MS HellKnight's SHUTUP cannon - which is fatal to damn near anything struck by such an intense EMP pulse - it will do nothing more than sting and possibly burn his upper skin layers. -Cyberspurs (2x) Twin blades hidden in each forearm, used in melee combat. Hidden underneath invisible skinseams. Originals were broken in action recently, and have been replaced at great personal cost to Grey by new ones composed of Quantum Gigasite. -Monofilament garrote-wire The fingernail of the his left Driving Finger is a fake. It is removable, and attached to a monofilament razorwire inside the firgertip. The razorwire is sharp enough to cleave through just about anything organic, but not very durable when pulled lengthwise, and expensive to replace. -Platinum razor-nails The fingernails on his right hand have been replaced by razor- sharp platinum implants, made to appear exactly like normal nails. These come in handy when his hands are tied, or when trying to remove the Invincible Shrink-Wrap from new CDs. -Neural net A small core CPU augmentation in his brain. It has set up many nodes elsewhere in the brain, and interconnects with his neurons. It improves the efficiency and reaction time of his brain and nervous system, and makes interactions with some of his other implants possible. It also allows him to make his body automate simple tasks. A side effect of this implant is a computer-like memory: Grey cannot forget anything, even if he tries - but he can file away or even encrypt his memories to prevent their accidental access. -Cybereyes Cybernetic optical replacements. Capabilities include 100m zoom, 100x magnification, multiple target acquisition, optional thermal imaging, and pseudo-X-ray imaging. Can display a sort of 'HUD' at Grey's neural command, which displays the status of his biological and cybernetic systems. -Neural Interface Datajack A computer interface port, located at the back of the skull. Hidden from plain view by a flap of skin and hair. Allows Grey to directly interface with computer systems, without need for a keyboard or other manual input device. -Smartgun jack A secondary interface port, located in his right wrist. A cord can extend through a skinseam to connect to a firearm. If the firearm has smartgun capability, the smartgun and his cybereyes will act in concert to target, auto-aim, and fire with pinpoint accuracy. -Adrenal boosters At will, Grey can use these to give himself a dose of adrenalin, for better fight-or-flight responses. It is very dangerous to use these when his body is in a state of exhaustion. -Shock suppressors When his body goes into shock, these implants take over. They cause his hormone-secretion organs to send the appropriate chemicals to affected parts of Grey's body, prevent his heart from stopping or restart it as needed, and other crucial tasks. These implants are literally life-savers. Martial Training: -Karate, black belt 1st dan -Kempo, black belt; seperate black belt for cyberspur combat -K'rynn Unrestricted style, Journeyman status -Infantry Firearm Marksmanship, 97% accuracy rating in all categories without use of cybernetic enhancements, 99.6% with use of cybernetic enhancements -NDF Physical Conditioning Program Level 8/10, passed -NDF Magic Program Level 4/6, passed -NDF Ki Training Program Level 4/7, passed -NDF Chi Training Program Level 5/5, passed Piloting History: Starfighter: NDF Hyper Valkyrie - S rank, ace, 223 kills Protoss Advanced Scout - A rank, 146 kills B-wing - A rank, ace, ace vs. capital ship, 109 kills, 7 capital ship kills Starship: NDF-0002 "Stiletto" - S rank, ace, 198 kills NDF-0001 "DragonStar", gunner - S rank, ace, 93 kills NDF Assault Gunboat - A rank, ace, 159 kills, 1 capital ship kill Mobile Suit/Powered Armor: Glitter Boy (mod.) - S rank, ace, 16 transport kills, 631 infantry kills, 38 air vehicle kills, 13 facility kills SCI Leo ULAV - B rank, 90 MS kills, 3 Apple Technologies factories stomped on Other: CND Sleipnir-II - S rank, ace, 1056 infantry kills, est. 250 MS kills*, 1 facility kill Other Notes: -Due to the cybernetically-increased efficiency of his biological systems, Grey's life expectancy is not measurable. He effectively does not age, and will not die except by unnatural means. -Grey is currently involved in a romantic relationship with the Nexus Station's Artificial Sentience, DYNA.** They usually keep their interactions within the Wired, but the two have crafted a bio-android replicant body for DYNA, for the times she wishes to join Grey in his world rather than he in hers. * - Drove through a Mobile Suit factory while fleeing misguided local law enforcement officials. Dropped a bandoleer full of active fusion grenades to rid himself of his pursuers. All completed Mobile Suits destroyed in the explosion were declared kills in the aftermath. Speeding tickets exceeded a total of US$25 billion, but were declared null and void as the officers and the judicial district in which they issued said tickets were consumed in what was deemed "a ball of pure destruction fit only for the wrath of god." ** - It should be noted that DYNA has her own fully-developed personality, and even reads as 1.67 on the Spengler index - a life force rating 67% higher than the average Prime Earth human. (Grey himself falls short of her score by .11 points.) Her replicant body is a mixture of the biological and technological, and is capable of conceiving offspring if she so chooses (which she has not, yet). <=EOF=>
