| "Ladies and Gentlemen... May I have your attention please! Registration for the Annual Street Fighting tournament is about to begin. Please have your invitation ready to speed up the registration process. Thank you and good luck to you all!" | ||||||||||
| Ken Masters could barely hear the announcement over the loud speakers as many fans and fighters alike chattered incessantly. | ||||||||||
| This year would defiantly be good. This would be the year he would claim the title as grand champion. Everything was going his way, he had a beautiful fiancée, his arts were at the peak of perfection, and he had mastered a few new twists to his technique. This would be the year, he promised himself. | ||||||||||
| As he stood in one of the numerous long lines for registration, he studied some of the would-be opponents also waiting to be registered. He saw some old and a lot of new faces. They all might as well go home. He thought to himself. This is my year! | ||||||||||
| "Papers please." The registration clerk asked. Ken handed his documents over the clerk. "Ok, Mr. Masters, I have you down as a returning veteran. You will automatically be entered into the third bracket above the newcomers. Your room number and key is in this packet. Enjoy your stay." The clerk said handing him the documents. | ||||||||||
| Ken thanked the clerk and hefted his large sports bag to his shoulders and headed out of the lobby. The private estate that was hosting this year's tournament was pretty sizeable. Almost a third the size of his family's estate mansion. Ken quickly went in search of his room. The flight from the States was a long one, and all he wanted to do was sleep. | ||||||||||
| Minutes later, Ken found the room he was given. Moments after he put away his gear, he collapsed on the bed with a sigh. | ||||||||||
| This would definitely be the his year. He thought as his eyelids drifted slowly shut. | ||||||||||
| Always so much damn paper work and long lines to file it. The young Chinese woman thought to herself. She was quite annoyed from the start of her journey. She had to practically beg to be assigned this operation. It was no secret that she sought revenge upon the person that was rumored to be holding this tournament. | ||||||||||
| Reluctantly her chief had no choice but to assign her to the mission, cause no other agent knew half as much as she did about this shadow organization. | ||||||||||
| Now here she was waiting in an abysmally long line as every overly testosterone male shot her with lewd stares as they mentally undressed her in their mind. She did not trust many people anymore, especially men, since they tried to take advantage of her after the death of her father. This had earned her a reputation as a loner at work. | ||||||||||
| The only person she really trusted was the elderly man that looked after her when her father died. Sifu, I will see my father's murderer kneeling before my feet. I swear this. She thought to herself. | ||||||||||
| "Miss? Excuse me Miss? May I have your papers please?" the clerk asked snapping Chun li out of her thoughts. She handed her the packet of documents. | ||||||||||
| "Okay Ms. Xiang, I have you registered as a newcomer to the tournament and have entered you into the first bracket. In this packet you will find your room number and key. Good luck to you." | ||||||||||
| "Thank you." Chun li replied as she took the packet and picked up her bags. She headed off in search of her room. She had both of her hands full with the two heavy sports bags while trying to hold the mini-map of the estate in one hand. While she was walking with her head down trying to find the nearest elevator, she slammed into a man and lost her balance falling to the floor. | ||||||||||
| "Please forgive me." The stranger said as he bent down offering her his hand. "It was my fault, I should have looked where I was going." | ||||||||||
| Chun li was just about to fuming, and was ready to let this man have a piece of her mind for being so clumsy. Even though it was clearly her fault for not watching. She looked into the stranger's face and was about to let him have it, when she stopped. | ||||||||||
| He had the biggest soft brown eyes she had ever seen. When most men's eyes looked at her, they were filled with lust and desire. But these eyes were filled with a kindness of sympathy and compassion. | ||||||||||
| She shook her head and cleared out the strange thoughts she was just having. "Just look where your going next time she gruffly spoke as she ignored his extended hand and got to her feet. | ||||||||||
| He seemed slightly taken aback by her abrasive nature as he picked up both of her bags. "Again, I am very sorry, I will look where I am going next time." He replied softly. | ||||||||||
| Chun li snatched her bags from the man's hands and stomped past him towards the stairs. "Do that!" she replied angrily. | ||||||||||
| The man raised an eyebrow as he watched the young woman storm off, wondering what it was that he did to upset her so much. He picked up his weather worn duffel bag and walked up to an empty line. | ||||||||||
| He handed the clerk his papers as he continued to watch the woman disappear around the corner. "Mr. Umm... Ryu. I have you down as a returning champion. You are entered into the third bracket automatically. Might I say that you have one of the most impressive win records I have ever seen, Sir. Here is your packet with your room number and key." | ||||||||||
| "Good luck to you Champion. The clerk said as he handed him his packet. | ||||||||||
| "Arrigato." Ryu replied as he hefted his duffel bag, and headed out of the lobby. | ||||||||||
