Heist
With a cast full
of experience and an intriguing plot, one would think that Heist
would be able to steal the show. A crime drama during a season
where the biggest competition is Monsters Inc. and Harry
Potter? But no, while the acting is good, the script goes
no where and gives no opportunity for the actors to interact
or keep the audience's interest.
Heist is about Joe Moore, an old thief who works for
crime lord Bergman. All he needs is one more job before he can
retire and call it quits. He has been working with the same
team for years of Bobby Blane and Pinky Pincus. The trio's
execution on the two heists in the movie is choreographed very
well, but the intrigue ends there.
The acting from Hackman is strictly mediocre. He simply coasts
through the movie looking like he needs to take a nap. DeVito
is very good, but rarely does he have screen time. The shining
point of the movie is Delroy Lindo who plays a strong
character that always sticks to his convictions.
The way the story is told, at its good points, is very fast
and done extremely well. But there are just long extended dead
periods with Hackman on a boat or Hackman in a garage. I will
give this movie what it deserves, it twists the story around
by using the technique that was discussed in Swordfish.
Misdirection keeps the story changing directions rapidly.
Almost so much that it gets irritating.
All in all, it could have been a great movie. But because
Hackman didn't act and the screenplay was pathetic due to the
lack of interaction of characters, Heist doesn't get
the cash.
