Love Letters - Chapter 7
In Kutou, 3 Days Later
Nakago slammed his head repeatedly into the wall as Tomo, clad in a tank top, boxers, and bunny slippers skipped by, followed by three broomsticks.
Sweatdropping, Soi patted him comfortingly on the shoulder.
"Daijoubu, Nakago-sama," she said. "At least he got rid of those three can-canning versions of you."
The blond twitched at the memory.
"Nakago!" Yui called from the kitchen. "He's in the coffee again!"
Growling to himself, the shogun stalked into the room. Tomo was staring into one of the pantries, hands clasped together and drooling.
Yui, who had gone very, very pale, wasn't moving. Nakago peered around the door to see what was so fascinating and froze. Curious, Soi peeked up over his shoulder. If she'd been holding anything, she would most definitely have dropped it. As it was, her drool stood a good chance of rusting through Nakago's armor.
"I AM GONNA KILL HIM..." Nakago said finally, forcing himself into motion.
Yui jerked around. "Wait!" she protested, struggling to halt her seishi's steady advance. "We still need him!"
Just then, the celestial makeup wore off. Without a sound, Tomo dropped to the floor, out like a light. Nakago slowly stopped, running over his options mentally. The flash of a camera went off behind him, and he heard the whir of a roll of film.
"SUBOSHI," he growled, turning around. The younger twin was already running towards town, camera in one hand,
a finished-off roll of film held triumphantly in the other, yelling about all the money the soldiers would pay to see their shogun doing
that.
Heedless of his dignity, Nakago broke into a run after him. Left alone in the
ktichen, Yui looked at her two seishi. Tomo was breathing evenly, apparently quite blissfully asleep. Soi was still staring into the pantry.
"We should probably get him into bed," the Seiryuu no miko said. The older woman nodded slowly, tearing her eyes away from the Nakago illusion and picking up Tomo.
The two women headed on up for Tomo's room, weaving their way through the numerous illusions Tomo had left lying around. There were fewer people around than normal, because drugs and seishi powers do not mix. Most of them had been run out early on by the foam-dome Nakago and the dominatrix
Tomo.
A final illusionary Tomo came whizzing past them on roller blades as they reached his room. Bracing herself, Yui opened the door. After dodging the stampede of Nakago's that came flooding out, they went inside. Soi gently lay Tomo down on his bed, bushing his bangs out of his face as she sat down in a chair near the headboard.
"You go ahead, Yui-sama," she said quietly. "I'll stay with him until he wakes up."
In Heaven:
Taiitsu-kun had sent the three gods home with an admonition to behave themselves, along with a Nyan Nyan and some asprin for Byakko's hayfever. Seiryuu was sitting in his room, thoroughly traumatized by the entire affair. Genbu had sent his minion to acquire one of every picture Suboshi had taken, and was currently compiling a photo album. Suzaku, meanwhile, after locking the door to his room, was sneaking a look in on Tomo's room. The god of love's appetite for mischief had not yet been sated.
He was currently pondering something that apparently had not
occurred to Genbu. The bad makeup was all well an' good, but how's Tomo gonna feel once he comes to? We can't just keep 'im high on divine fumes for the rest of 'is life. Nakago'd kill
him.
Suzaku spun around and started digging through his closet. Throw pillows and goose down feathers went flying everywhere. "Ah-HAH!" he cried, surfacing with a long, slender stick of insense. A gleam flashed across his eyes, and he hurried to his windows to summon a minion.
In Kutou:
Shadows ran across Soi's face as the sun sank below the
horizen. She started awake as something flitted up to the window. Shaking herself awake, she walked over.
A small blue bird perched there, a slim stick of incense held delicately in its beak. It stared at her and she smiled a bit, petting its head. With an embarrassed look, it hopped over to Tomo's dresser, dropping its burden and looking back at her.
She blinked at it. What on earth?
"Take it," the bird said suddenly, in a soft, feminine Southern accent. "It's a gift."
Soi backed away cautiously. "What are you?" she asked
suspisciously.
"Ah'm a messenguh from Seiryuu," the animal replied soothingly. "The incense is for Tomo. It'll make 'im forghet what happened. Yah can understand that, right?"
Reluctantly, Soi glanced over her shoulder at Tomo. He slept obliviously--but what would he be like when he woke
up, remembering everything that had happened, everything he'd done...?
"What about me?" she asked, turning back.
The bird shook its head. "No effect," it said. "Ah promise." With that, it fluttered out of the window.
"Wait!" Soi cried, reaching after it. When it didn't return, she turned thoughtfully to the incense, picking it up and examining its long, deep red surface. Finally, she set it down, going to her room for an incense burner.
Author Interlude:
"Ever wonder why the Bluebird of Happiness was blue?" Aeanagwen snickered.
In Heaven:
"Yes! She fell for it!" Suzaku exulted, then quieted his voice before someone heard him. He asked himself briefly why on earth he was doing this.
'Cause the last thing my seishi need to haveta fight is an insane
Tomo--or, worse yet, a suicidal Tomo. Somebody's gotta fix 'im up somehow. There's only one way to do that, an' I'm the only one who can do
it.
For another moment, he wondered whether he should feel guilty for what was about to happen.
Nah.
In Kutou:
Soi called forth a tiny spark of lightening and lit the tip of incense, sitting back down and watching the long grey
tendrils of smoke reach gracefully for the sky. The scent of it washed over her, the smell of red wine and roses and honeysuckle. Bold smell of firelight, freshness of clean skin, sweetness of a kiss. Desire and passion and love, in a thousand different scents, intoxicating and heady, yet soft and cloying.
Breathing deeply of the smoke, Soi drifted off to sleep.
