My parents knew I was lovin' the blues big time. I'd listen to Ry Cooder wail away on the Slide Bar, Clapton talk sweetly through his Fender Strat, John Lee utter the soulful
word of the blues. But I'd never heard the King. They bought me "Why I Sing The Blues" and I remember listening to Hummingbird thinking where have I been all this time!
B.B. King for me is one of those players who not only plays, talks, or sings his music, but he makes love to his music. I remember my Dad saying 'I'd like to see him just
go crazy on that thing, you know he can do it but he's
just holding back'.
I used to think that that was just the King he's great and all but ya' know he can't do everything.
Then, I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert and I just about blew my load!!
He was using all these licks I never even knew were possible! He was all over Lucille like the cheap polyester suit on a salesman! And it was B.B., man it was him up on stage,
right there! That's what I love about him. I told my Dad about the concert and he just smiled. He knew B.B. was holding back all this time.
Any ways that's what B.B. is for me. He breathes Lucille. And she breathes him and that's why the King
is so good. He's got all these licks and he's just savin' 'em kinda building up tension ya' know! He's like a Hurricane in a Jack in the Box.Once he pops he just can't
stop! He's not just playing the blues, he's lovin' it all up!
