Bobby Rydell's Career

After beginning his career with impressions performed in front of his parents at the age of seven, Bobby, encouraged by his father, progressed to local night clubs, and then, for over a year, to a local TV show, Paul Whiteman's TV Teen Club. When he became a teenager himself, Bobby joined a band called Rocco and the Saints, along with his neighbor Frankie Avalon. One summer evening Frankie Day, who was looking for a bright young talent to manage, spotted him onstage at Wildwood, New Jersey. They worked together for two years, during which Bobby made records, promoted them among disc jockeys along the East Coast, and polished his act. Not until he was seventeen, in the summer of 1959, when "Kissin' Time" became a hit, did the rest of the world hear of Bobby Rydell. The rest is history.
