Keir Hardie Days

As the winter months drew in, we found ourselves with nowhere to play hockey. The nights were getting dark and the weather getting worse, it was becoming difficult to play hockey.

My friend Danny had asked his dad if he could help us out with finding a place to play. So Danny's dad also Danny, set about finding us a sports hall to play in. He phoned round every sports hall in the area and even ones outwith our district. The common response we got was,

"Oh no, the rubber wheels will mark our playing surface".

(What a load of rubbish, we'd have a better chance of marking the floor with the blood of our opponents).

Unknown to us, about the same time that Danny, Burns, Googs, Reg, Willie and I had started, there were also people playing the game up in holytown. It was up there that we met, Andy, Jamie, Paul and Murray.

Throughout the next few months Danny advertised for more players as we wanted to build on our team and try and make a real go of things. It wasnt long before we saw people arriving at the centre wanting to play hockey. There was players of all descriptions wanting to join our team:
