Sophocles uses the word wonderful to describe how great man and his accomplishments are. When sophocles talks about man sailing the sea, he says that the sea yields to his prows, the word yield seems to make man seem more powerful than the sea and the huge crests that bear man up, make man seem almost like a god, idolized and held up high. This is also foreshadowing that even though man is lifted high for the moment, he will come crashing down. Sophocles uses the word stallions instead of mules or horses. This gives the impression that humans are so great that they farm with stallions which are more magnificent that horses or mules. light boned describes just how light the birds seem to be. The lithe fish also describes how smooth and slick the fish are. Describing a horse as windy-maned makes it seem very wild, yet the humans can even tame these creatures. The way sophocles uses arrows and spears to describe snow and rain, seems also to heighten the image that humans are so powerful that they can stop this. |
