I think one of the biggest unresolved problems today is the uncontrollable amount of terrorism. One of the most horrible acts of terrorism was the bombing of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. When you think of terrorism the first thing that comes to mind is the 9/11 right? You might think that terrorism began with those horrible terrorist attacks, but it has been going on much longer than that. Another misconception about terrorism is that it is only done by people in the Middle East, but that is also wrong. There have been many people who have even been born in the United States that have committed act of terrorism. One such case was Timothy McVeigh. On April 19, 1995, in the street in front of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building, a rented Ryder truck containing about 5,000 pounds of explosive material exploded. This bombing resulted in the deaths of 168 people, 19 of them were children. Another act of terrorism was the Columbine High School Shooting, which occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School near Denver and Littleton, Colorado. Two teenage students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, carried out a shooting rampage killing twelve fellow students and a teacher before committing suicide. It is considered to be the worst school shooting in U.S. history. There are several ways in which we can prevent terrorism such as forming better relationships with foreign powers and being more accepting of other cultures and religions. Although those things may prevent some of the terrorism, a large majority of it is carried out just because an individual is unhappy with the government, laws, etc. There is no good reason for terrorism yet is still very prevalent in our world today. I do not think that this problem will be solved any time within the near future |
