Joseph (1768-1844)- Joseph was Napoleons best friend during this time. Even after Napoleon fell he went with him to St. Helena because he like Napoleon so much.
Louis (1778-1846)- Louis was the king of France before Napoleon. Napoleon forced him to back down and he took over as the emperor.
Napoleon establishes the continental system (1806)
Describe what it did.- Was a trade system between Europe and Britain. The system involved grain and gold.
Berlin Decree of 1806- The Berlin decree was made by Prussia as they were rising in power. The Decree said that they would one day be on top.
Milan Decree 1807- Italy made the Milan Decree in 1807. Italy stated that they were no longer involved in the war with France and that they wanted peace.
The Peninsular War- The Peninsular War was a war between France and Europe to keep control of their land. France was starting to fall apart at this point.
Sir Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852)- He is also known as the Duke of Wellington. Wellington was the British general who finally defeated Napoleon.
Conflict on Other Fronts(1808-1810)
Austria- Austria was the weakest of the European powers. They couldn�t stand up to the French Powers.
Battle of Wagram (July 1809)- The French attacked the Austrians and wanted revenge for losing to them earlier. The Austrians were pushed back and defeated by the French
Treaty of Schonbrunn (Oct. 1809)- Austria finally signed a final treaty with France after yet another loss. The French beat the Austrians for the final time.
Plans to restore the French Empire in America (1803)- Napoleons attacks left much of Europe in ruins. Plans were made to try and rebuild what he destroyed and took down.
Louisiana territory (1803)- France controlled much of the present day mid-west. America bought this territory from France after they won their independence from England.
War of 1812
Describe the happenings of the War- Britain was destroying the American trade ships because they could be helping them win the wars in Europe. Britain attacked America and burned down the capital. Once again France had to come and help the Americans.
Napoleon fights his unsuccessful Russian campaign (1812)
Invasion of Russia- Napoleon attacks Russia to cripple the Alliance. Instead of winning Napoleon gets almost all of his army killed and he flees looking really bad.
Prince Mikhail Barclay de Tollay (1761-1818)- the Prince is Russia�s leader. He helped Russia push back Napoleon.
Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov- Marshal is the Russian military leader. The Marshal was another reason to Napoleons defeat and retreat from Russia.
Battle of Borodino- The Russians were trying to defend their homeland against the French. The Russians won the battle and the French were pushed from Russia.
Grand Army entered Moscow- The French Grand Army entered Moscow but didn�t stay for very long. Winter set in and the Russians pushed France out of their homeland.
French Retreat (Oct 19, 1812)- The French were defeated and pushed out of Russia in a horrible defeat. Napoleon and his men looked horrible and never really recovered.
