| Evolution of Democracy | ||||
| Democracy has not just been in America. Long before America the Greeks, Romans, and other countries also had forms of democracy. Democracy as we know it today all evolved from the kind of democracy they had back then. One of the first things that our shaped democracy today was the ten commandments. The ten commandments were the basis for every form of democracy. Even though there was no democracy directly made from those rules, the laws of democratic societies were loosely based on the ideals of the ten commandments. The 12 tables are also a tool by which democracy was based off of. Each of these contributes to our modern justice system today and has evolved over the course of history. I think that the most important of all the democratic developments is the ten commandments. The ten commandments are the basis of democracy today and back then they were the only form of law and order. The ten commands state such things as Thou shall not kill, thou shall not steal, honor thy father and mother, and other such laws. Democracy does not necessarily include all of these, but democracy is based off of this general idea. Also, not only is it democracy based off the ten commandments, but without the ten commandments, there would have been no law and order back then and nothing would have gotten done anyways. Many of the ideas of the 10 commandments are still core ideas in our government and democracy today. Even though there many have been other more specific democracies that might have shaped what a democracy is today. With civilizations such as Greece and Rome, we can still trace that back even further to biblical times with the ten commandments.
I agree with Alex saying that the system of democracy has evolved from a basic form of government. I believe that the ten commandments to establish a form of law. I think that it is correct to say that the Twelve Tables were the early code of Roman Law, and that they were based off of the Republic. I also agree that the Twelve Tables are fairly similar to Americas Bill of Rights, because they bought contain the rights and laws. The Athenian Democracy did help the evolution of Democracy, by creating it, and setting a basic system of Direct Democracy. I think Indirect and Direct democracy have helped by giving the people more freedom. The Magna Carta helped make sure that there was no ruler that had absolute power, which was also helpful in the Democratic government. It also gave people liberty and justice, along with keeping the rulers in place of power, and making other officials that could help decide on issues. I do believe that the most emphasis on the development of democracy should be put on the ten commandments. Without the ten commandments no other form of democracy or law and order would be possible today. Jean-Jacques Rousseau was the writer of the novel Discourse on the Origin and Foundations of Inequality, which described inequality. I agree that his help in the evolution of democracy was part of the Liberal democratic state. I also believe that Hobbes was an English and Political philosopher who studied the ways of civil society, and America used a form of his civil society to make sure the society was secure as Hobbes stated. |
