June 26, 2004 - We dropped off our visa applications at the Chinese Consulate in Chicago on Friday.  We hope to have them back in about a week.  We have also made the hard decision to not take Ryan with us.  He is going to stay with his Aunt Kathy, Uncle John, Aimee and Johnny.   This was a very hard decision, but I think it is the right one.  Matt's Aunt Jen will hopefully be going with us for the first week of our journey.  It never hurts to have your own photographer along!
July 30, 2004 - We have been anxiously preparing for our trip to China.  We leave on August 11, 2004 and return on August 26, 2004.  I have spent a lot of time learning about the Fuling and Chongqing areas.  If you are looking for an interesting book you should read River Town by Peter Hesser.  It really gives a feeling for where Elizabeth comes from.  We have friends that are waiting on a referral that live in our neighborhood.  They are DTC in May.  We are hoping they will receive their referral soon so that our girls will be able to play together.  Referrals for the rest of December, January and February all came in today.  That leaves only a few more months for them to wait!
August 5, 2004 - We received our airline tickets today.  We are one step closer to Elizabeth.
August 11, 2004 - We flew out of Chicago Ohare at 11:38 am and will be traveling now until 7:30am EST. Who cares - we are finally on our way to get Elizabeth!
August 13/14, 2004 - We arrived in Beijing last night ("day" for you stateside people). Our flights were fine. The first flight (Chicago-Tokyo) we were packed in like sardines. We watched "Shrek 2" too many times to count on the little screens in front of us. On our second flight (Tokyo-Beijing) we had enough space to spread out and get some sleep. As we landed lin Beijing, Jen leaned over to me and said we "are finally on the same continent as Elizabeth." Wow. It was a little hard though, to realize I was not on the same continent as Ryan anymore. I miss you Bug! After we landed, we hit the McDonalds for cheeseburgers, and then we crashed! We found ourselves awake all to early, and are now on our way down to breakfast. Then we will be off for some sightseeing.
