| Notes | This missile was the ultimate replacement for
the RIM 2/24 series of missiles. The idea of the Standard missile was to
make it compatible with existing hardware, which it had to be replaced would
take time and be expensive. The Standard was soon embroiled in the Vietnam war. It has seen action since. One of the latest developments is the NTWMD (Navy Theater Wide Missile Defence) which is basically a modified Standard missile. It is intended to attack other missiles. |
